Default windows 8 asking me for a new product key to add features?

    Hi all,

I alway get the message, says:

"Make sure to enter the new product key that you purchased to add features and not the one that came with your pc or current copy of windows."

It wont let me do basic things like change the desktop pic or change my account photo. Some settings revert back to default after rebooting.

Strongly suggest you go download the Win8 RP .iso, burn a DVD & then wipe-out the Win8 you have, now & do a new install.

Don't waste any time. Just start anew. It's only a beta, just throw it out & redo it.

    Cheers,
    Drew

I have to agree with Drew. This is a very corrupt installation. Who knows what went wrong. I would be sure to download the ISO file from an approved site. Also burn the ISO file to a DVD using a SLOW burn rate. Then do a complete Custom (Clean) install.

    Ditto!

Also, be sure to get the FREE registration key from the same page where you download the ISO file.
That's the only key that will properly register your BETA TEST version. None other will work.

Tip: Create only ONE user and skip the password, for this BETA Test.

    Good luck,

The LAST ONE definitely works for 'add features'.

I was going to say, it's difficult to tell whether the original OP was talking about Media Center add-on or their whole installation. I almost think the whole installation because of the other things not working.

I feel that it's a corrupt install also. Even the ones that I had that were bad, those that didn't install drivers correctly, or whatever, I was still able to change settings.

The install on my notebook before this one, there were issues, evidently a CPU driver didn't install.

Usually, a clean install takes care of things, & I feel that's what's needed here also. This sound typical of an upgrade install, which I did try for kicks, all looked fine until I tried to open Windows Update, then it froze. By that, I mean the whole OS locked down, stuck in "Checking for Updates" mode.

I suggest to start over, making double sure that the proper install media is used.
