Default Win 10 Build 10049 is out now!

    And it comes with Spartan.

WARNING: It's a SLOW upgrade. This one took me 25minutes to complete. Usually just take from 10 to 15 minutes.

    Enjoy!

I just checked WU & do not find this (????) Also, when 'we' had 10041, Microsoft internally are on 10048

I'll check , again, shortly. And I am on Fast track.

Oh, no, I take it all back... I just DO see it, now

    Cheers,

    Almost ready

    Don't turn off your PC

About an hour and 15 into it.

    Oh, change that... it's DONE!

    Known Issues in Build 10049:

•If you have Virtual Machines hosted on your PC running Windows 10, you will want to move to the Slow ring and wait for the next build as this build breaks the ability to run VMs.

Umm, & yet, I am running it as VM. Came from WU on a Build 10041 VM so, still, a VM. Go figure...

So, hmmm, do I switch to Slow, one wonders...

Oh & good news, the Desktops are now dedicated... that's better, sensible.

    And it has SPARTAN!

    Cheers,

    Running there now!

Fell asleep, needed to log on...it grabbed some aps, was up in 5 minutes. Was at 30% when I crashed.

So far so good - first clean reboot fast and no issues.

Can use Spartan, but as you may know, I do not like minimalism or mobile, miss my nested menus. Still has IE tg. A lot of the functionality IS there, but some (natch) not working. Unsurprisingly, use of the Favorites Bar and other stuff from the old assorted "top Viewed minus is whacky or absent.

    Running at 14% Memory!!!

It's NOT clean partition, has buncha stuff available, if not running. 8.2 Spring ran at 17 in same state. Load was faster also. That's the sort of stuff I care about!

Hands on: Microsoft's Project Spartan browser starts small in Windows 10 preview | PCWorld

    my two cents on Spartan

BROWSE means READ not view. I have Windows 10 Build 10049 with Spartan also. Same memory hog. Klutzy ability to organize favorites or to access features. Looks like Chrome - another in joke for techy-perverts. Chrome meant "bells-and-whistles', a la Microsoft Word (which I happen to think is the best application ever created). So Google decided to implement the opposite concept but to use the same name, a la 'war is peace'.

Sure a mobile craptraption can't really be used for anything other than dating or navigating one's physical world/social life, or consuming media, or futzing with friends... But I need no device at all to do those things quite well. Yet these minimalist applications/interfaces DO suit those limited purposes quite well, due to tiny screen or limited attention spans or both.

The nice thing about Spartan is its part of an attempt to recreate a good thing now gone missing: an era of hegemony for one concept, the all-tasks PC running one operating system. Sure the hegemon reaped many benefits but provided them too, in office and in the positive aspects of OS/AP integration (the negative aspects are of course innumerable). The GREAT PARTS were the third party ecosystem and ubiquity and cheapness, as to software anyway.

The mini-machines with their greater market and greater physical EFFICIENCY (not performance) are lowering price and expanding ubiquity out of sight. But walled gardens come with, and tinkering is as difficult as it was in mainframe days, that is, few can even begin to try.

Windows 10 MIGHT bring back the all-things approach, adding value to the ubiquity and cheapness of the craptraptions and re-creating the third party ecosystem, and extend both those from the crapraption world and from the world of things requiring maybe greater processing, memory, storage, larger input/output devices, faster/more secure/more reliable connections, from each world to the other.

    Assimilate! Resistance is futile!

    Back to the future!

Spartan is a fair first cut Chrome Killer; I already like it better than Chrome-on-a PC, but then I purely detest EVERYTHING about Google and ALL of its products, services, attitudes, actions, and people.

Maybe a new record - removing "unnecessary" files 28 gb worth omg - 99.9% from the build 10049 switch
