Default Upgrade advisor for windows 8

I've got a older laptop that runs XP. Is there a windows 8 advisor that will tell me if this laptop could handle windows 8? I've been Microsoft to find one and did not see one. If they want XP users to upgrade then a advisor would be a good idea would it not?
Perhaps someone can give me a link if there is a windows 8 advisor.

Win 8 Upgrade Advisor is built into the Setup of Win 8. I have no idea why there is not a separate advisor. MS explains this here. You could download the Win 8 RP and attempt the install. The Upgrade Advisor should run to let you know if it will install.

The Win 8 Compatibility Center might help as well. The Win 8 System Requirements could help as well.

Thanks Medico! Much appreciated. This old laptop I have is one I bought to use Magic Jack phone. Basically a throw a way laptop I paid 50.00 dollars for. If it could handle windows8 I would love it. I don't want to spend any money on a backup drive for this computer. I don't have a back up for this computer. I wish their was a separate advisor. I'm going to throw caution to the wind and download windows8 without a backup unless you can suggest a cost free alternative.

I cannot advise on free back up media at this time. I use an Ext HD. There are many free Imaging apps that would work, but as far as a back up media???

An old hard drive that still works makes a fine backup drive, whenever I upgrade a HDD in a computer, that's what the swapped out one becomes, with the exception of my stock notebook drive. If my SSD were to go, I'd need it.

Back when 1TB HDD's were on sale for $49 or so, I grabbed the good ones, got a couple of Samsung HD103SJ's for that price, with free shipping. I've noticed that prices are falling again, Newegg has ran a few Seagate 3TB's for $119, some 2TB's for $99. All that's needed besides that is a hard drive docking station, here's a low cost one with plenty of positive reviews. There's a 20% discount by using the promo code listed, insert it at checkout.

I would never install a new OS onto a computer & not back the old one up. Possibly a friend/family member has a backup drive?

That was the one that I ran, from 8 RP. Aside a couple of apps needing updating, all was clear for the $39.99 8 Pro Upgrade.

It also is said to work from 8 CP, for those who still has it installed. If it's ran from 8 CP/RP, one doesn't have to "give up" any other installed OS. Just make sure to go past the upgrade point, & create media to clean install with. If not, the only way to get a install disk is in the confirmation email, there's a link to order the backup DVD, a well as another to download the Win 8 Pro setup app.
