    hi guys,

Several days ago, I came across this forum. Then I have downloaded IObit Advanced SystemCare, for I have been looking for a windows 8 cleaner. It is rather amazing and ease to use. Thanks for your recommendations!

WARNING: when using such all in one cleaners/optimizers be prepared for some system back lash on the registry side. Sometimes these cleaners, when using the registry cleaner part of the program, will remove good registry strings which can render your system inoperable.

Most of us on this site as well as many other forums, we will advise not to use those so called all in one cleaners as the do more harm than good.

There is some very good info here.

There are some so-called 'Cleaners' that have the capability of totally disabling your PC. That happened to me twice a few years ago, with one program that is highly touted on many forums.
That would be CCleaner (crap cleaner). What seems to work GREAT on one PC can totally disable another PC.
So just because one guy had good luck with some program does not mean that you will have the same luck.

Having said that, I like the Cleanup program that's been included in Windows for several generations of OS.
That would have to be, "Disk Cleanup". When it's run in the stock version it's only moderately effective, but....
when it's run in "Extended Mode" it's a highly effective junk remover.
It's been included with the OS on every computer for over a decade and it's 100% SAFE. I set it up for all my customers as a part of a weekly Maintenance procedure.

To run it in Extended mode, here is the text for the desktop shortcut:
    %SystemRoot%\System32\Cmd.exe /c Cleanmgr /sageset:65535 & Cleanmgr /sagerun:65535

When it's run the first time, you need to put a check mark in the box next to every item that should be removed.
I always just check everything but the setup.log files. Because, the windows installer needs those files in order to UN-Install any program.

Once the program has been set up and run the first time, the shortcut text can be edited to read as follows:
    %SystemRoot%\System32\Cmd.exe /c Cleanmgr /sagerun:65535

Sageset only has to be used ONCE to set the parameters for the program. From then on, it's no longer needed and the program will run without any user intervention at all. Just click the desktop shortcut icon and the program will open a small window on the desktop and run, and then it will close the window when it's finished. Sweet!
It one of the simplest and safest cleanup programs you can possibly use.

Personally I use that, and also a Cleanup.bat (batch file) program that I wrote, to clean out selected folders on my PC where Windows and other programs saves temporary (.tmp) and backup (.bak) files.
That only removes designated files, so it cannot take out things that might harm Windows or any other program.

Medico and myself have both posted our Cleanup.bat programs in other threads, so I won't duplicate that here.

Keep it Clean, guys and gals!

I'm sorry, but if you stated a problem I totally missed it. What was it again?

Maybe you'd start 'your own' thread to talk about it. Eh?

This thread is about Reg Cleaners and not about your problem.

I agree with one post that states that many Reg Cleaners in the hands of amateurs, nubes, etc. can be very detrimental, since they can remove Reg Entries that are needed for running Windows.
I think I already reported that CCleaner did that to me.....twice!
Now I won't let that program get anywhere near my PC.
