Cool Revised: Classic Shell for Win-8

For some time now, I've been offering my new Windows 7 customers the Classic Shell so that their computer will look and act more like the Old Win-98/XP format that they are used to.
That program does NOT seem to work with Windows 8/CP.

Enter the NEW and Improved Classic Shell version 3.5.0, available from Welcome to Classic Shell

    Attachment 412

This is the third shell I've tried and the only one, so far, that I actually like. It goes a long way towards making Win-8 acceptable to Win-XP users.
Like previous versions, Classic Shell is a program that runs on your computer and like any other program, it can be UN-Installed, if you find you don't like it.

Obviously, this won't be for everyone, but it's certainly the Cat's Meow for me.

    Happy Computing!

How has this been interacting with the Quick Launch bar and/or Shutdown/Restart shortcuts?

Ok, I got it, and it actually looks pretty good! This should definitely appease those looking to have a Start Orb.

The Quick Shutdown icon is still in the task bar, as well as it's now picked up in the start menu.
It's sure nice to be able to pick up all my programs from just one menu. It just is what it is, a big improvement over Win-8, out of the box. I've seen NO interference with the way Windows runs.
Tapping the Windows Key brings up the new start menu and not the Metro start screen.
The batch file to bring up the Desktop on boot-up is also working great.

    So far so good.

And for those that wish, Settings will allow the Win key to bring up the Metro UI. Win +X still works, charms still work. Metro is not disabled. This does indeed look like the thing everyone has been clamoring for. Heck you can even change the skins, set Control Panel and Favorites as menus, etc. Cool!

ps. I am going to leave the Shutdown, Restart and Log Off icons on the QL Toolbar, just as I have on Win 7.

This also eliminates the need for having the All Apps icon on the Taskbar. This icon was fine except it always opened in a default format which I had to change to my desired format, then minimize. As anyone that knows me knows I hate keeping something open that I may or may not be using in the present session. This Classic Shell does eliminate the need to have that. In my book, that's a plus.

I'm curious, if anyone else has experienced this......

I installed the Classic Shell, on Win-8/CP/64 and there have been some updates, etc., but what I've found since then the my Firefox is running Real Slow. I.E. not so much. But I can type in a new URL to go to and it may take several minutes, if FF goes there at all. And when I type something, the letters are very slow to appear on the screen and since I type over 60wpm, that is very disconcerting! I have to stop typing and wait for the screen to catch up. Yukkkk!
I'm on XP with Firefox right now and the screen follows the keyboard exactly.

So I'm not sure, if the Classic Shell is causing the problem or if it was something else that I loaded the same day.
Win 8 does continue to receive MS Updates. I do need to get back into W8/64 and do some troubleshooting.
I'm fighting with a problem with my monitor right now too, so I've got my hands full.

    Cheers Mates,

No change at all with IE or Chrome. I do not have FF installed, sorry. Someone else must.

Cool Re: Revised: Classic Shell for Win-8

I've spent the better part of my day, so far, experimenting with Win-8/CP/64, to find out what it is that's causing Firefox 11.0 to slow down to a crawl.

I have suspected several different programs as the culprit. But today, I restored an image of C: that I made shortly after first installing Win-8 on this HD. Firefox works as it should.

Then I installed Flash, as I normally do, because a lot of things on the internet require it. Immediately FF slowed to about 50% of normal speed.

Then I backed up, Using System Restore, to before I installed Flash and FF was back to normal again. Then I installed the Classic Shell and saw no problems with FF. Now I'm experiencing something completely different.......my Enter key does nothing, like it should, giving me a Hard Return (allowing me to put a blank line between paragraphs).

    This is SO annoying!

PS: I closed FF and clicked on my forum shortcut to re-open it. It wanted to open in I.E. That's Not good. So I manually opened FF and entered the forum's URL in the address bar. I finally got back here, but had to log in again. As you can see above, I can once again use my ENTER key, to create a new paragraph.
I now need to go to File Associations and make sure that Firefox is truly my default program for opening any files of the "HTTP" or "HTTPS" types.

It Wasn't , but I fixed that. Now my shortcuts will always go directly to Firefox.

In IE 10 the Enter key problem is fixed by using IE 10 in Compatibility Mode. This is the first I have heard of the problem in FF.

I had the same problem with the Enter Key, on another forum and the problem was fixed by the Administrator, in the forum software.
