First, Make an Image of your present OS. Do this prior to doing anything else. Also you might want to wait for a while because Win 8 RP (the next beta release) will be released in early June. This next beta release will require a clean install.
Does your PC have a USB port? The iso file can also be burned to a flash drive of a large enough size (4 GB or larger). You should check your bios first to see if booting to a USB flash is an option.
You can also follow the instructions found here. Do a Clean install. Do not try to do an Upgrade install. Almost ALL the problems people are encountering here are due to the upgrade install. Do a clean install then reinstall all your apps.
Hey Kevin,
Have you fixed your problem?
Thanks for providing that link, Ted! Hopefully our viewers will take note, & preferably bookmark the page, or at a minimum, print the page, it'll take 3 to 4 pages, but it's worth it. A B&W printout is fine.
As for me, I'm going to do exactly as I did with Windows 8 CP, at first installing it on that trusty 40GB WD that I have. After I see everything's OK, after a complete image of one of my main HDD's, I'll format the partition that Windows 8 CP is currently on & go from there.
Most netbooks has USB2 ports, and can be bootable. If not, the instructions provided in Ted's link will work fine.
Just remember, BACKUP your present install first. And make sure that your screen resolution is a MINIMUM of 1024x768, preferably 1366x768, or all is for nothing. In that case, start saving for a new Windows 8 computer, I'm sure that there will be plenty of promos to jumpstart the launch of the latest Windows OS.
It's always been that way, and I don't expect it to be different with Windows 8. Possibly even more aggressive promos than with Windows 7, as that one was a well sought after OS, after enduring XP for over 8 years. I say XP because many Vista users downgraded to XP (I did several of these installs myself for others).

I will create a new Image of Win 8 CP then, I will just Clean Install Win 8 RP directly into my Win 8 CP partition and customize from there. I'll set the new beta up similar to the way I have CP set up, or as close as the OS will let me. As yet we do not know what changes are going to take place.
When I unboxed my own Acer Aspire ONE Netbook, the lack of a CD/DVD drive hit me like a ton of bricks.
So being an old timer at this stuff, I dug out my IDE/SATA to USB adapter and then connected a spare CD drive to the adapter. I used an external power supply to power up the drive and I had me a make-shift External CD/DVD reader/burner. It worked like a champ. Replacing the CD drive with a hard drive got me an external hard drive. No big deal.
Since then I got a great deal on a portable USB CD/DVD drive.
When I wanted to try another OS on the Netbook, I first made a second partition on the little hard drive and made a Ghost Image of C: to D:, then using the external DVD drive, I installed the alternative OS. It didn't run very well on the little Netbook so I just restored the Ghost Backup Image and it was like nothing ever happened.
So if you're going to play around with a different OS, make a backup of the original OS first, so you don't loose it.
Cheers mates!

Backup! Backup! Backup! Ghost rocks!
I like your idea TechnoMage. You know for an old flatulence (I didn't want to say fart in the forum) you are pretty smart.
Yeah, to keep it as family friendly as possible, I just call myself an "EinAuldFahrt". That's German I think. lol
I've done just about everything that can be done (legally) with a PC, so on occasions I take out my boredom on my car, house, etc. It's all good!
Going on 69, I have to keep my hand in or loose more than I want to.
