Thumbs up How to increase the storage capacity of C drive in windows 8?

I have installed windows 8 in C drive but unfortunately allocated very low space and now just after a week, i am consistently getting low memory error.I have plenty of space on my hard disk.I tried to increase the space of C through Disk Management but ,the option to extend volume is in gray colour which means that it is inactive. What should I do? I can't afford to install the windows again.

    ravik,

    1. What size is the drive?
    2. Do you need everything that is on it in terms of Programs?
    3. Have you run Disc Cleanup 'on Steroids'? (see footnote)
    4. Is there another drive available, internal or external to which material can be moved from C:\? *

    * If there is no drive available to which stuff can be moved from the Sys drive then, move stuff to SkyDrive; there's 250 Gigs available to you there for free.

Take away (caveat) here is.... don't take up space on the Sys drive storing data that can be kept elsewhere. C:\ is Sys drive, try to not let it, also, be for saving data.

    Cheers,

I have this somewhere in the Forum but, be just as quick...

    Disc Cleanup on Steroids:
    > cmd, Run as Admin
    Put in, %SystemRoot%\System32\Cmd.exe /c Cleanmgr /sageset:65535 & Cleanmgr /sagerun:65535
    Hit ENTER
In the window that comes up put checks in ALL the item boxes, 1st time only... the checks will stay the subsequent times this is done.
    Hit OK

The above is vastly superior to the commonly known Disc Cleanup!

Thanks for your reply but I have already done everything(Disk Cleanup) .It frees some space but I need to increase the space of C. Moving of files will not help.As i mentioned it earlier that I have plenty of space around 400 GB on another drive named as D. Is there any way to increase the space of C from 100 GB to something around 300 Gb by reducing the size of D. I have already tried disk management which doesn't show extend volume option.
