Legioner, I don't know of any Windows 8 users who doesn't have a password (usually that of your Outlook email account). Or a local account can also be setup, however it's discouraged by MS.

I know that you prefer to hit "Enter" & be logged in, however it's an inbuilt security feature of Windows 8 to have a password, most users wants some type of protection.

Passwords, like screen savers definitely have a place in an office or Corp environment,
but in a private home, not so much.

In 33 years, I've never used a password to get into my OS....ever!

My computer safety is secured by some really great software and my home safety is secured by Smith & Wesson.

The easiest thing to do is not create any Login password in the first place, but if you already did.....you can go into the control panel, under USERS and Change your password to 'nothing'. Leave the password line blank.
    Windows will accept that.

With NO password on my PC and Classic Shell loading on boot, my Windows 8 PC, like all my other PC's, boots right to the desktop, without any intervention by me.

Life is simpler when you just leave out those things that make it more complicated.

    Good Luck,
    TM

PS: I'm forever removing Login passwords from my customer's PC's.
If they forget their password or it gets messed up somehow, I have a
password removal program on a bootable CD.

Great find, bassfisher! For the minority who doesn't want their computers locked down, it'll work. It's OK for those who live alone & have little company, & doesn't allow those who do visit into where the computer is.

Though it's the exact opposite of what most users wants, which is more security. I make extensive use of TrueCrypt, which in my opinion is far superior than BitLocker. As well as have my two main computers setup with BIOS passwords to prevent unauthorized use. While there is a workaround to that, it would be beyond the scope of a casual user.

Hopefully the info in the link will solve Legioner's issue.

    To each their own!

Cool Re: How can you start window8 without using a password?

There is also something available in almost every version of Windows, that I've not seen mentioned....

Create a new user, for visitors, so they don't have access to your main user files, programs, etc.

That will keep your own files safe. Eh?

I have a separate (non-administrator) account for my wife on my HP desktop only (Linux Mint 15) & have a spare notebook running XP with the guest account activated. Only for family members that I trust & a couple of close friends. Sorry, beggars can't be choosers. My main two computers, both of which have Windows 8 Pro as one of the available OS's to choose from, no one but me allowed. BIOS is Locked & my account passworded. My Data partitions & Flash drives are all protected by TrueCrypt.

My guest account also has parental controls in place to prevent the viewing of adult materials. Usually when someone wants to use a computer, they want to check their email, with which I have no problem. Also, flash drives/other portable media can't be ran (which security experts agree is totally inadvisable by non-administrators). Here's the tutorial for that protection, though some IS suites have inbuilt controls for this.

How to Disable / Restrict Use of USB Storage Devices in Windows? - Tweaking with Vishal

And while I'm quite aware that locks & controls don't always keep determined thieves out, they do a good job of keeping honest ones honest. Some "honest" ones tends to be curious, which is why I only allow the older notebook, which contains nothing of value to me to be used by others.

Ok, I will not get into a debate about this...

There is a way to function w/out a P/W or w/out it being used. However, I will not use a forum to tell people how to accomplish this, simply because it is not smart, wise or recommended. There are heaps of good reasons for & advantages to using a Microsoft Account rather than a "Local Account". There are reasons for signing in w/ a MS Acc't & a P/W besides protecting it from access by other people... it makes YOUR OWN experience better & enhanced... all of which is lost by using "Local Acc't".

What I do suggest (have used it myself in Win 8 for the past year & a half) is using a "Picture Password" instead of typing in the P/W. For me it is much faster, easier & I get to look @ a cool picture I selected.

Plus, keep this in mind... it is a bit (no offence) silly to fuss over using a P/W considering how infrequent the need to boot or reboot is.

    Cheers,
    Drew

    Just remove it.
You can open User account in Control panel to remove Windows 8 password. You also can use some all-in-one program to remove Windows 8 password like Windows Password Recovery Tool

    Poelty.....

You do realize that you've just posted to a thread that's over a year old.....Right?

The problem, if there was one, has been solved a long time ago.

Please refrain from posting to OLD threads.
