    Default Dowloading torrents

So the only BIG problem I have with Windows 8 is that I can't seem to download torrents. Actually all kinds of downloads aren't working properly.

    >Tries downloading a torrent
    >Clicks link and does nothing
    >Clicks link next to torrent link for an extension that can help you download torrents
    >Downloads extension
    >Tries to open file and nothing happens

This seems so happen with a lot of files that I try to download. Like I downloaded a trial of Word and the file just sits in my downloads folder and does nothing when I click
It seems like the only things I've successfully downloaded was like photos.
    Somone techy please help.
    I am constantly installing updates.
I looked through all kinds of setting to see if I could find something to help but I got nothin'

What website you are downloading from? Please make sure that all download links are valid. I do suggest downloading files from approved websites.

Win 8 is more secure than previous versions. Most Torrent sites are illegal downloads. Perhaps this is telling you something!

Have you never heard of a "Virus" , "Trojan" or Spyware?

It's been reported over and over and over on MANY different forums that Torrents are bad news.
We've all be warned away from ever using a Torrent.

If you want to download a large file, like an OS ISO, then use "Internet Download Manager" (IDM).
It's every bit as fast as any other method of downloading.

When I last downloaded Win-8, I started the download for the 32 bit version, then immediately started the download for the 64 bit version and the two downloads ran concurrently till finished.
I believe you can get a FREE version of IDM, but I elected to just BUY IT. I use it every day.

There's nothing illegal about torrents, unless you're downloading things that need to be purchased. Even Blizzard allows you to download their software via torrent since it distributes the load across everyone. It's a great way for distributing software, especially in the open source world.

My first guess as to why you're having issues is that the Windows Firewall is blocking it. You should've gotten a prompt the first time you opened it to give it access, if you denied it then it will never work. Go into Windows Firewall and manually add the program and it should work. If that doesn't work, then it's not windows but rather your router or ISP that is blocking the ports.

It's been a while, since I posted this message, but not a lot has changed, or if it has I didn't get the Memo.

I didn't mean to imply that ALL Torrents are bad, it's just the few that are, that have given them a bad name.
They are like Used Car Dealers. A few bad ones gave the whole used car industry a black eye.

So just be aware, when you download anything, from ANY source, that there is always a possibility that the file you download may be laced with something you really don't want.

I feel fairly safe, that everything I download is scanned before during and after the download, by my AV/AS software. Still, I'm pretty particular, where I get my downloads.

    Be SAFE, not Sorry!
