Question Difference W8 tablet and W8 pc

Hello guys, I'm the new one!
With this post I wanted to know something more about Windows 8.
Until this morning, I thought that there was no difference whatsoever between a version of Windows 8 for desktop or laptop pc and a version of Windows 8 for tablet. A friend of mine has told me the opposite, and said that he has not managed to install on his tablet even a single app for pc.
Also, I've read that two versions of Office 15 will come out: one for tablet and one for pc's.

Now, my question is this: will tablets be able to run any program that a pc with a similar hardware configuration can run?

I'm a bit confused by now, but I hope I made my question clear enough.

First, Welcome to our Forum. It's nice to meet you.

Win 8 CP has only one version, which is similar to Ultimate in Win 7. It's available in 32 Bit and 64 Bit versions.

There will be different versions once Win 8 is released in a final RTM. There will be the version that can be installed on PC and higher end tablets and a separate version for ARM Tablets (I believe these are lower end tablets although I may be mistaken)

The full version should be available in something similar to a Home Premium and perhaps a Pro and Ultimate Versions in both 32 Bit and 64 Bit.

I read an article recently that the ARM version may include a Desktop.

Thank you for the welcome, Ted!! It is indeed much appreciated!
You're relieving me: basically, high-end tablets (that is, with x86/x64 architecture) will have the same functionalities as laptops and pc's. And they will be the first at launch.
Only in a second moment, we will see ARM-based tablets, which will probably get less features and hopefully a desktop interface.

Does this mean, therefore, that if I buy a W8 tablet with x64 architecture I will also be able to install Office 15, Skype, VLC, Avast and all the programs that are now (and will be) available on an average desktop pc with Windows 8?

Thank you a lot for your time!

I would think so, but I am not really a tablet man, and the final version of Win 8 is still several months away so who knows for sure exactly what will or will not be available. I'm sure as we get nearer to the RTM we will have more clues what to expect.

I suspect MS will be trying to cater to as wide a variety of users as they can from desktop/laptop users to high end tablets to low end tablets to phone users. All these users will have very similar OSs. This, IMHO, is very exciting.
