Default Control Panel crashes every time

    Hi all,

    Installed windows 8.

The desktop version of control panel is crashing whenever I open it, making it impossible to access many settings.

I don't know what the problem exactly is. Any idea?

I would try a complete reinstall using the Custom (Clean) install method. It sounds like your basic install is corrupt. You might want to go a step further and download the ISO file again and burn it to DVD again.

Hi Imrannnn, welcome to our forum.

I recommend that you go to this thread to check any fix there.

Seems like a lot of work. I would think that as this is a beta OS for testing, the reinstall would be easier. I would definitely make sure the Win 8 RP is installed, not Win 8 CP.

    Hi threeone,

What the thread says seems complicated.. I am sorry I can not understand all. Perhaps reinstallation is more simple. Thanks, anyway.

I never ask for help! It's called TESTING. If it gets mucked up, I just reinstall. Job done, time saved.
Just like I did two days ago, when I moved my Win-8/RP/64 drive from my motherboard to a (PCIe) SATA III controller card.
W8 didn't like the move, so I said, "Screw it!" and just did a Clean Re-Install. That worked like a champ!

I purchased the official Win8 update on-line and installed it over a Windows 7 with only very few programs installed (fortunately?). Windows 7 was fully up to date with fixes. Windows 8 has been brought fully up to date with fixes.
    Control panel crashes.
    Search crashes.
Suggestions of backing out updates are useless: I would need access to control panel (which crashes!) and presumably my official version has those November 2012 fixes at were part of the test period included anyways.

Anybody has this issue with the official Windows 8?? and better still: anybody has a WORKING solution?

Microsoft promises 90 days free support with the upgrade but all support options charge a fee. Me no like...

I rolled back the Sound/Audio driver from the Device Manager. All works fine now, no crashes.
