Default Cant Delete this file because it is open in system?

    Hi,

I've tried everything to delete this file but unlucky so far. When I try to delete it to the recycling bin it says The action cannot be completed because the file is open in system(Windows 8 CP). I tried looking in the task manager for it but didn't find it. Does anyone experienced the same? hope someone can help me and many thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Reboot to safe mode and then delete it. If you don't know how to get to safe mode, use Task Manager to temporary disable all programs starting with Windows. Reboot and delete. Set Task manager back to how it was. Enjoy.

Rebooting, even into normal mode will usually release a file in use by the system. Some apps just don't shutdown nicely.

Before telling anyone how to delete a file, I'd want to know "WHAT FILE" and why do you want to delete it.
It could possibly be a file that's absolutely Needed by windows or one of the installed programs.

Do you own that file? Is it causing you any problem?

There are so many things to know, before you just go deleting things.

    Cheers Mate!

    IAN, welcome to the Forum!

Being that you're not sure of what's being deleted, please disregard 0xWin8's advice. Following it may cause more problems than the file residing on your HDD. As long as it doesn't contain a virus or malware, it's no harm to be there.

ALWAYS make 100% sure of what you're deleting before doing it.

Please, all of our readers take note here. This former member is actually telling another member to delete an open file, who doesn't even know what the file is, what it's doing there, or why it's there.

Ignore the post & any others created by the banned member. This type of advice is careless & potentially dangerous to those who follows it. We just don't go to blindly deleting files w/o knowing what they are or why they are there, nor telling others to do so.

IMO, this is on the borderline of a sabotage post. There are too many computer users who don't backup at all, nor have they burned their recovery media, nor do they have any type of re-install disks.
Following this type of advice can WIPE OUT an install.
