    Stella,
I can assure you that no-one is ever banned for "no reason at all".
We encourage every new member to put their location in their control panel when they first register for the forum.
Knowing where a person is coming from makes it easier to form answers to their questions.
But when the person lies about where they are from.....and yes we can tell when they do that.... then they have broken a cardinal rule of the forum and that's grounds for dismissal. Spammers, pornographers and liars, all get the axe. If a person will lie when filling out their personal control panel, then what else will they lie about?
I really question when someone puts "Man" under Biography and their screen name under "Interests". That is just SO WRONG!

It's not necessary to post a personal link, in order to take part in the information and discussion here.
I have one, but I don't post it. This forum is for discussion of Windows 8, not a bulletin board where people can post their personal ads.

    Cheers Mate!

It irritates me to no end when an individual posts a link to an advertisement or web site selling things as their home page. This is an obvious spammer and will be banned. If we are not proactive, we will never rid ourselves of these vermin.

No problem Ted, on editing that post. I understand the reasoning.

Like you, I feel that being proactive is the best choice in dealing with this group. If we laid back & waited until every KNOWN spammer acts, there would be no telling what the forum would look like, or should I say, what type of membership we would have? I've seen forums that's wide open, totally out of control, & this one will NOT be as such.

I've noticed that we have a few more legit new members in the last couple of days, but still, the majority of potential members (at night, EST) are spammers. These are going to be banned every time by me, after a double check, no exceptions.

There are plenty of other options for these type of members, where they are very much welcome, personally I wish that these would go where they're actually wanted, & leave us who wants to learn & discuss Windows 8 alone.

This thread hasn't been forgotten, nor swept under the rug. Our hunt for spammers will continue & verified ones will be banned as they're proven to be so.

Being that this is a often accessed/read thread, thought I'd refresh it. Our stance hasn't changed a bit.

Good to see this thread being read often. It would be nice if known spammers would also read it before joining, it'd save us all a lot of trouble.

It takes time & effort to hunt down spammers, but rest assured, that I'm NOT laying down on the job.

Medico, I think you take it too serious. Maybe someone wants to recommend an app to all users of Win 8, you will think he is a spammer and ban his account. But he isn't, do you think it is a little strict for you ban all members who like a spammer in your opinion?

You could be talking into the air. Medico has not posted for quite a while. I see he is no longer a moderator?
