I can't see why Windows wants to create an OS for tablets. I mean, iOS and Android work just fine on tablets (As I have a Motorola Xoom, I say that from personal experience). Tablets don't need Windows, desktops do. Microsoft has proved to be the best of all when it comes to making OS for PCs, so why spoil that by leaving us, desktop users, to use a non mouse-and-keyboard-friendly OS?! It's preposterous!

I too have given Win 8 a few days to check out. Microsoft has lost it this time. I like the Android OS on my phone and tablet, BUT I do not like that type of interface on my keyboard devices. I have yet to see ANY advantage of Win 8 over Win 7. I am using an i3 computer with 8 gig and it does not seem to boot or shutdown any faster than Win 7. I find it annoying to have to go to screen edges to initiate actions. I design and build computer systems and I'll NOT be suggesting to my clients Win 8.

How Microsoft can expect this version to be acceptable is beyond me. Those responsible should be sacked. Bring back the big boss!!!

Are you using a VM? Cold boot does not work with VMware, I think you actually have to install it on your PC. When I installed it, it booted from 7-15 secs, and shut down in at least 5 secs. If you actually installed win8 and cold boot still didn't work, then there's obviously something wrong here.

I think that even on a tablet win8 wouldn't look too good, so yeah, I think that win8 looks bad on EVERY sort of device

Maybe not, Brunelleschi. I have Windows 8 in several configurations, dula boot, on its own. Boot time for me is pretty much the same as windows 7 (on the same computer= about 50 secs to one minute. From hibernation, which is in the default, about 5 secs.
