I'm new to this forum and I'm not really good with computers.

Anyway basically a long time ago I bought the game IL2 Sturmovik 1946 and at this time had Windows XP. Due to my computer at this time being rubbish it could not run the game.

Now I bought a new gaming laptop which came with Windows 8 and found this game at the back of a cupboard so I decided to try it on my laptop. I put the first CD into the drive but the auto setup did not work. I went into the disk and tried to access it from there and also running it as admin. It did not work still.

I'm wondering if there is a way to get it to work. I know it was made about midish 00s as the box says it runs on 98,XP,ME and 2000. Some games that are made for these times have worked but I just cant get this one to work.

If anyone could help it would be great.

Have you tried running it in compatibility mode?

You didn't tell us anything about your PC or version of Windows 8. It makes a big difference, because only the 32 bit version has all the backward compatibility for older (16 bit) software.

It would appear, that 64 bit OS's are looking to the future, not to the past.
I found this to be true on my own PC's.

I run an old 16 bit game that I bought in 1990, but it will only run on 32 bit OS's and not on any 64 bit OS's.

Well technomage I have a Lenovo Z585 Ideapad. On my laptop it only says windows 8 so I don't know exactly which one ( as I'm a PC noob haha).

Try looking UP and installing the Direct X version it is designed to run with.

Well, then it's time you learned your way around the OS.

You need to find your Control Panel and then "System" and it will tell you exactly what version of Windows you have, how much ram you have, etc.
If I had to guess, my guess would be that it's a 64 bit OS, because, I've not seen any new PC with a 32 bit OS installed in quite some time, regardless of the brand or type of PC.
