Default Windows 8 does not recognize my DVD drive.

Windows 8 does not recognize my DVD drive. I have tried to use it on anther computer in windows 7 and it works fine. when I go to my computer there is no DVD drive icon, and I also checked it in device manager, not there, either.

    Thanks!

Have you checked your DVD drive? Can you press that button?

When ever you are making changes such as these you should first create a full Image in case this does not work and something bad happens. Make an IMAGE!!!

    1
. Run Command prompt in Admin mode. Desktop: Win Key + X, Command Prompt (Admin)

    2. In the Command Prompt Window just type & enter (notice there are spaces included in this command before each / and after each letter after the /)

    reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Cont roller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

if you have more then one cd/dvd type:

    reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Cont roller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

    reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Cont roller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000002

This might work, might not. Worth a try. I would say copy and paste, but I do not think the copy/paste will work in a command prompt window.

Please repost if a particular fix works.

There is a little script I use whenever I run into that problem.

    You can download it here:

TakeOUTFilters.reg - File Shared from Box - Free Online File Storage

It's an old fix and may or may not work with Win-8.
Sure can't hurt to try. Eh?

Download it, run it, reboot and see if your DVD drive is still invisible.

Please come back and let us know what works.

    Cheers Mate!
