Default Scanner not Working in Windows 8 #1

    Hello guys,

The computer in my office is running with Windows 8 64bit, and I have attached to it a Samsung SCX-4100 multi-function device (printer, scanner, copier). I have installed the recommended driver from the Samsung Website and the device now prints and photocopies fine. But what strange is that it won't scan. I have installed the correct Smart Thru software from the original installation disk that came with the printer. But when I launch Smart Thru and use it to Scan a Folder it returns the message 'unable to open SCX-4100'. Then I do not know what shall I do.

    Pls advise!

    Thanks!

1.Right click on the exe file for driver and click Properties.

    2.Click on the Compatibility tab.

3.Select “Run this program in compatibility mode for.”

4.Choose Windows 8 from the drop down list.

5.Select “Run this program as an administrator” option under the Privilege Level topic.

    6.Click Apply, click OK.

    7. Please double click on the exe file again.

in "device manager" select your device and update driver , wizard gives you tow options :
    1- windows update
    2- browse my computer
browse your computer to your device software dvd to scanner folder .
i did that with an hp 2050 scanner and succeeded

My problem is with step 4...Windows 8 isn't on the drop down list.
