Cool NVidea GeForce drivers = Good News

Well, among all the bad news about video drivers that don't work, I just got some GOOD news.

I bought a brand new Nvidea GeForce 205 video card for my main system, that runs, XP, Win-8/CP/64 and Win-8/CP/32. (all on separate HD's)

I installed the new video card and put in the disk that came with it, to install the driver on Win-8/CP/64. But there was no 205 driver on the disk, so I went to the Nvidea GeForce web site and downloaded the proper driver there. It installed without a whimper. That was on Win-8/CP/64.
The Downloader program, at the web site, even looked at my PC to make sure the driver was compatible. It was! The graphics are SUPER! on my new ACER, 20" widescreen LCD monitor.

    So there's one success story.

    Cheers Mates!

PS: At the time of the above download, I had not yet installed the "Internet Download Manager" and the download took almost 30 minutes. IDM would have cut that download by more than half.

Is this recent driver for the Fermi cards also. My notebook has a GeForce GT425M (1GB DDR3) card. Last time I tried an updated driver, which was mid last year, there were problems. For the time being, I'm still running the OEM supplied drivers (this is recommended practice for notebooks anyway).

    More Good News!

Today I reconnected my Win-8/CP/32 drive, which has not been powered up for several weeks now.
I wanted to see how it would work with my new Video card and it worked just fine. Great graphics!

But, I wanted to see if there were any GeForce drivers for 32 bit Win-8. So I just googled "nvidea geforce 205" and got a direct link to "geforce.com" and when right there and found my card and under the 'Drivers' tab, they did a scan of my PC for driver compatibility, then I had a button to start the download.

Driver downloads are HUGE, so using a Download Manager is a good idea.
The new Nvidea drivers installed without a problem.

I don't see any big difference in my Graphics, between the MS Default drivers and the ones I got from GeForce.

But at least, I do know that Nvidea is writing video drivers for Windows 8.

    Cheers Mates!

TM, that's fantastic! Hopefully AMD & Intel will follow in NVIDIA's footsteps, & soon. After all, most brands of computers has at least one of these 3 brands of hardware installed.

Well, I've got good news, and bad news!

Good news: I went to the Geforce web site and found updated XP drivers for my six year old video card, made by Winfast, but containing the Nvidea Geforce chipset. Voila!

Now the Awshitz: They did not have Win-8 drivers, either 32 bit or 64 bit for my old video card.
But, , , the drivers supplied by Microsoft are working just great.

Why did I take out my new video card and put my old one back in? Long story, but the short answer is that Geforce has no XP drivers for my NEW card, that work. And, XP is still my main (everyday) OS, so everything on it MUST work 100%.
Geforce did have NEW (updated) drivers for my Old Card running XP. So I'm a happy camper, again.

There will be many things that just Will Not work with Win-8. Deal with it!

After all, we're just TESTING, a BETA version. The final retail version, which you will have to buy, may be totally different.*

    * I think some people are totally missing the point of Win-8/CP. It's only free because it's a BETA TEST version. The final version will cost you REAL MONEY.
MS will not be giving that one away for FREE.

When the testing versions are done, I'm DONE! Those HD's I'm now using for Win-8 testing, will be erased and used for something else.
My XP will live on as my MAIN OS, as long as I do.

    Cheers Mates!
