Default Dell N5110 Windows 8 Release Preview Driver

    Hi there,

I have the dell N5110 with Intel Integrated Graphics 3000 and the driver windows gives you forces the screen to shut off. I am currently using Microsoft basic display driver but am stuck with 1024 by 768 resolution. Can you please fix the driver. It seems to be a problem with the power state because the back light does not turn on.

    Thank You!

    D-Man, welcome to the Forum!

Do you have a driver CD with this computer? That's how I was able to make my Intel integrated graphics work properly, having the Intel Graphics Control Panel (essential for adjusting monitor resolution), though that wasn't an issue for me, power options were.

If not a driver CD, then you can try downloading the driver from the Dell site. You will need to select Properties & install in Windows 7 Compatibility mode, doing so as Administrator. This is going to be critical to success, how you install the driver.

Another option is to open the Device Manager, find the graphics under the device tree, select the device, & update the driver, pointing it to the folder where the download is (this also works with Driver CD's).

Keep us informed about the progress, we're here to assist you in this matter. BTW, what was the resolution prior to installing Win 8 RP?

    Best of Luck,

I guess you just need to update the driver. Most often when a device doesn't work it is because of a driver. Try re-installing yours.

I've been working with a customer who bought a HUGE wide screen monitor.
But, his old Dell computer can only output 1024x768 top resolution.
Also, there is no PCIe slot on his motherboard for another video card.

He won't see the required resolution till he gets a new PC.

That's really messed up, but the owner of that older Dell should have checked things out. I guess some are different, my ThinkPad T42 has 1024x768 resolution, but if I add another monitor, I have a choice. Leave as is, & have large icons & easy to read monitor (my wife loves this), or the resolution can be adjusted for the 2nd monitor to 1280x1024 (it's native one). I left it at 1024x768 for my wife.

Here is the monitor, it cost over $700 in it's day, when new. This one isn't made of cheap flimsy plastic, it has a metal frame & is heavy, yet versatile.

I was going to consider a new one of that brand, they're too costly for me. The one that I have came with the freebie from my mother-in-law. Monitor was worth twice as much as the computer, easily.

Those specs are wrong, or were written prior to 2007, as it supports Vista & Windows 7, in addition to those earlier OS's.

I just took a second look at the specs for this Dell N5110, this thing has plenty of ports, HDMI, VGA, are you sure that the right model is listed (where's the OP here)? Here are the tech specs, I've never seen an HDMI that would only give 1024x768 resolution with an external monitor.

You may need to go to the Dell site & download the available graphic drivers for it, this Intel Chipset is reported to have a resolution of up to 2560x1600. It supports all HD formats, 720p, 1080i & 1080p.

Or mabye even trying a fresh install, this is a 15.6 inch display out of the box, as my MSI (listed below) has, it's 1366x768 w/no external. The Dell N5110 isn't old by any means.

One other thing, many Dells has several different graphic drivers, it may be best to download all that are close to yours that are listed. Burn them to CD, then open the Device Manager. Find your graphics there, select Update Driver Software, & point it towards your CD/DVD drive, it should find & install the right driver for your computer.

Or if your computer came with a Driver CD, use that & do the same.

    Just went through this.
I used an external monitor to get into the shell then went on dells website. They have the updated video card drivers. In order to get the laptop monitor to work I had to update the bios as well.
