I am runing windows 8 Release Preview. But after installing windows 8, the web cam has stopped working. I tried to re-load from cd camera works but windows 8 will not run. As soon as I turn web cam off, windows 8 runs. I can get web cam to run as long as cd is in as I wanted to use windows 8 app for photos this is a big problem, also the time is of on ebay by 8 hours it just on ebay everthing else is fine.

You might be able to find updated drivers for your web cam, but many developers are slow in developing new drivers. You might be out of luck until drivers catch up. Win 8 RP has a huge data base of drivers, but can't include everything.

Since this is a beta OS, we always discourage depending on this OS to do your real work. Beta S/W is meant to use for testing purposes only. Save your important work for your licensed, released OS.

Depending on the brand of computer that you have, there may be free programs that will open the webcam for you, while still in Win 8 RP. YouCam is the webcam software that works with HP computers. More than likely, there's one that works with your brand also. Some trial & error may be required.

I found by running the driver in windows 7 compatibility mode everything worked fine, maybe that will work for you.
Also turn on .net framework

CoolJohnB brings up a valid point here, some webcams requires particular software to work, & .NET 2.0 (included with the .NET 3.5 package) is required for some of these.

Go to "Turn Windows Features on or off", .NET Framework 3.5 is among the top features to add. Then try out the webcam software & see how it works. One must keep in mind that the computers that we're currently using is not "Windows 8 Certified".
