    Default Atheros AR9462 drivers

This is my first post here, so, Hi!

I'm really a beginner with Windows.
I have a laptop, in which I installed windows8.1 (with a legal copy provided by my University). Everything works except Wireless.
I know my network adapter is an Atheros AR9462 drivers.

I've downloaded the drivers (I can't post the link cause I need 10 points), unzipped the file and, as I read somewhere on internet, opened Device Manager and this is what I see:
    Attachment 3182
I selected Network Controller -> Search for Driver update -> Selected the folder with the drivers and I get an error :/.

Currently, I'm using internet thanks to my phone

Any ideas on what to do?

First and foremost..... make sure that the WiFi on your laptop is turned ON.
There should be a lighted symbol somewhere on your laptop telling you that WiFi is on.
If you don't see that, check with the documentation that came with your Laptop, as to how to turn on WiFi.
Sometimes it's a physical switch on the laptop someplace, and on others, it's a Key Combination that turns it on.

That turns out to be the problem with a high percentage of cases where WiFi isn't working.

When I installed Windows 8.1 on an older laptop I have here, the Windows installer took care of installing the proper drivers for the WiFi adapter. It worked fine, and was On-Line by the time the Install completed.

Good Luck, and welcome to the forum.

Hi, thank you for the answer.
I've already tried it (my laptop doesn't have an indicator, is an ultrabook, but the combination should be FN+F2 as it works on other OSs) and it didn't work

Never believe, because something worked on some other PC that it should also work on yours.
It ain't never that simple. Read the owners/users manual for your PC.

I have never, EVER, had to install WiFi drivers, for any of my PC's or the PC's of my hundreds of customers.

After installing Win 8, did you download all the updates?
A lot of issues after installing either Win 8 or Win 10 Tech Preview are getting fixed with windows updates.
To download the updates, you may need to connect your laptop first via ethernet cable to get the internet to work.

The OS is updated, I've used my phone for internet.
Also, I'm sure the key I press to activate - deactivate wifi is correct, it does work in other OSs

Did you download the WIndows 8.1 version of the driver?

    There's one here:

Yes, I've downloaded the drivers from the website you linked but the zip didn't contains an executable file so I've searched how to install these files (as I said, I don't know Windows and this is the first time in years I have to install drivers) and I read I have to go to Device Manager and the use "Search for Driver update". But I can't find something like wireless adapter or stuff like that in here so I've tried with Network Controller and it didn't work

The file I linked can be installed by going to Device Manager, then right click on your network adapter, select "Update Driver Software", then "Browse my computer for driver software" and navigate ("Browse") to the location of the downloaded file and follow the rest of the prompts to complete the driver update.

    Edit:

You know what? I just noticed from your photo above, you have virtual network adapters. These virtual adapter can cause connection issues, too. You might want to get rid of them. I know you need them for hyper-V but that is one possible cause of your network problem. But try updating the driver first. If it didn't work, then get rid of virtual adapters.

Thank you, I downloaded the wrong driver and now it works, thanks a lot
