Thanks for the link, Ted! I tried another service, sometime back, problem was, after a few months they stated that the manufacturer, not them, were responsible for replacement.

InkSell.com's three year Free replacement, with return shipping on their dime, sounds plenty fair to me. I may have to pull out my unused Dell Photo Printer 720 for a second printer. Local replacements & other services, as I described above, has been not good for me.

I can't understand why a company would sell a consumer a product, back it with a one year warranty, then state it's not on their backs to honor it. Especially when this isn't given up front, nor any address to the manufacturer. STAY AWAY from InkJet Superstore.com, this is whom I'm referring to.

I placed an order with Printer Ink and Inkjet Cartridges - InkSell.com because of Medico's recommendation and inksells free shipping and long term warranty. I was afraid refillable bulk ink could be a mess. This seems to be a good compromise. I hope!

There are correct ways to post responses to threads that do not involve jacking up a post count as you have just shown. And a 1 week ban is not "weeks". If anyone does not follow the rules they all get the same treatment.

I got my old HP 1012 to print using Win 8. Here's the story:

I've just upgraded a Thinkpad X230T from Win 7 to Win 8. The last hurdle was the HP Laserjet 1012 printer which worked normally under Win7 using the Universal Print Driver and DOT4_001 port. After upgrading to Win 8 the printer wouldn't print.

I removed any old 1012 devices showing in Device Manager

Then I plugged in the 1012 to a USB port and turned it on

Then I opened 'View devices and printers' in Control Panel

Then clicked on Add a Printer

Then in the next window I clicked on 'The printer that I want isn't listed'

I then selected the 'Add a local printer...' option and clicked next

Then I selected the 'Use an Existing port' and selected the USB001 (Virtual printer port for USB) and clicked Next

In the list of printers I selected HP and Laserjet 3055 PCL5 and slected Next (as this driver works in Win 7)

Then in the next window I selected Next without changing the printer name and the driver was installed.

In the next window I selected to not the share the printer

In the next window I selected 'Print a test page' and nothing happened. So I thought that's it.

I happened to plug in a USB HDD to look at some files and then removed it. The test page (which was waiting in the print queue) printed OK!

I couldn't believe it.

I could now print anything. I turned the printer off/on. Rebooted the Thinkpad and the old 1012 just prints normally.

Hope this works for all HP 1012 users

Although not one size fits all and I have dispensed this advice to another person in this forum, I had great success with HP>
I do not know if this works but I had problems with my HP AIO going from Win 7 to 8.
Only certain features functioned.
I tried individual drivers to not avail.
Finally I went to HP, entered my printers stats and downloaded a comprehensive 32 MB installation.
It has worked well since. I think it uninstalled the old and reinstalled the new.

If you cannot find a proper hp driver from hp website, the easiest way for you is to use a drivers download utility to download drivers automatically. With it, I have already downloaded and updated many suitable drivers, so I hope it can also work for you. tiny.cc/3cwerx. Just download and install it, then it will automatically scan for your system and recommend suitable drivers for you. You can download or update whichever driver you need.

If you cannot find proper driver from HP website, you can download driver through device manager.
Step 1. Click Start, then right-click "My Computer" (or "Computer") and click "Manage".

Step 2. In the Computer Management window, on the left, click "Device Manager".

Step 3. Click the "+" sign in front of Mouse and other pointing devices.

Step 4. Right-click the device listed below Mouse and other pointing devices and select Uninstall.

Step 5. Click OK to confirm removal of the device.

Step 6. Restart the system. Windows will detect and automatically install the driver.
