Are you sure that it is Win 8 you are dealing with?
I would say that it is Win 7, or even Vista, because win 8 is only out in "Developers preview" so far, and Win 7 does not present a "Home Basic" edition. So I might be in a wrong forum? because I am testing the brand new "Windows 8 Developers Preview", out since last Tuesday!
Please get back to me with an answer, ok?
    Best regards

Nor will there ever be. There's going to be Windows 8 & Windows 8 Pro (for consumer users, will be available as retail & upgrade). Those who are running Windows 7 Pro & Ultimate will only be allowed an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro.

Haven't read anything about a Windows 8 OEM version, so until I see it, I'm not going to assume it's going to be available. I state this, because I've read on Microsoft sites that the OEM versions are often abused. Read further:

There's going to be a Windows R/T (stands for "runtime") for tablets, that will be pre-installed only. At the moment, this is all we know.

Obviously if "just bought" cannot be Windows8... must be Windows7 Home Basic. Suggest there is a typo in the OP. One of the Windows7 default Gadgets is Weather. Recommend that be used rather than looking for some 3rd party thing, instead.

Check it out. The date of that original post was in Win 8 DP days so he had to be talking about Win 7.

That's probably the case. Being that's it's Windows 7 Home Basic rather than Home Premium, the options are limited as to what one can do. Themes cannot be changed. One cannot create a homegroup, but can join one.

I ran it for awhile on an old Dell Latitude notebook that I had, due to it's lack of supporting Aero. 7 Home Basic ran & looked well on that computer, I only had it installed to have a more secure OS than XP Pro on it. It also cannot be purchased in the US, but can be obtained via a TechNet subscription, which I had at the time & may renew in the future. They send me promo codes from time to time to come back.
