    Default Windows 8 BSOD - SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED - ndu.sys

I installed Windows 8 yesterday, It was great, until it started random crashing. It crashed 5 times with same error (I think). The error is: Windows 8 BSOD - SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED - ndu.sys.

What can cause it and how can I fix it?
    Thanks in advance

I cant post the links to W8 File Collector report, which I've uploaded on my dropbox account, I've just registered.
I can't attach file, because it exceeds file size limitation.

You can see the link in: My Account>About Me>Interests.

It sure sounds like the installation is corrupt. Since you just started your testing, I would definitely start over. First download the ISO file again from a known good source, burn the ISO file to a DVD or Flash Drive (One post here talks about this), then Custom Install directly over the present installation.

Usually starting from scratch will solve these very strange problems.

Hey Ted, thanks for quick reply.

The thing is that yesterday when I downloaded ISO Image I checked hashes with MSDN ones and they matched. I'll try what you said, but I don't think, that the problem is with image...

It might not be, but the time it takes is worth it to rule this out as the problem. Did you try to Upgrade or Custom (Clean) install? I ALWAYS recommend the Custom (Clean) install as it gives a much more pristine installation.

I chose Custom/Clean install, formatted the drive, and then installed new OS.

Guys from other forums suggested to uninstall some software - realtemp/msi afterburner/ultra iso.
First I'll try to do so and if problem is not fixed, I'll reinstall the OS.

MSI Afterburner is overclocking software, though I don't use it, I seen it's description on the MSI website.

These guys are correct, they gave you good advice, this type of software not only causes issues with the OS, but leads to premature wear & failure on components. And keep in mind, though Win 8 RP is heading towards completion, it's not 100% ready yet. This type of software is not advised to be ran on beta or pre-release OS's.

RealTemp is often used in conjunction with overclocking software to manage temps, though it can be used for diagnosing heat issues also. As a standalone app, just to watch temps, I don't see an issue with it. Ultra ISO (free version), may be infected with a Trojan (Trojan.Agent/Gen-Toggle.Process). SuperAntiSpyware just intercepted it when I opened the download. Recommended that I scan for possible infection.

    Fortunately, the app didn't install.

My suggestion is what already has been stated, reinstall the OS. Leave the unnecessary software alone for a while & see what happens. If you do decide to reinstall them, do so one at a time (per day or two), run the computer as normal & look for issues.

I do have a gut feeling that MSI Afterburner is the culprit. The OS isn't 100% stable yet, mixing overclocking in is not good for Win 8 RP, or your hardware. Some members may have a different viewpoint in regards to this, but run Win 8 RP w/o it for a week or so, then you'll see for yourself.

EDIT: Just scanned the Ultra ISO download with MBAM, it indeed does have an infection.

    Files Detected: 1
    D:\Downloads\installer_ultraiso.exe (PUP.BundleInstaller.BT) -> No action taken.

This is just the part of the log file to show the infection. Normally, when MBAM shows a threat, it's the real deal. If you choose only to remove this software, download & install the Free version of MBAM (a 14 day Trial version of the Pro product will be offered, accept it). Run a Full Scan, should any infection turns up, may as well reinstall 8 RP, this can cause issues also.

I also want to make a quick comment on Overclocking. We have an entire thread but people may not read it.

Most overclockers have self built PC's, with higher end components that can stand the rigors of overclocking. Most of us are using OEM PC's that are just not built for this. You are taking a strong chance of burning up something.

So 3 days have passed and do you want to know how many BSODs I experienced? - NONE!

About overclocking - Yes, I am overclocking, since the day I've purchased my first PC, I got a good cooling, so everything is fine.

BTW, UltraISO is back - no problems.
MSI Afterburner/Realtemp got replaced with SpeedFan - With correct configuration it can control GPU fan speed as well as MSI Afterburner (adding it to startup is another story, because it needs administrator privileges, so moving shortcut to Startup folder didn't work. I've added Speedfan to startup with Task Scheduler).

The only thing I'm lacking right now is in game on-screen-display, but I can live with that.

I can't say that MSI Afterburner has problems with Windows 8, because some of my friends use afterburner with windows 8 and have no problems. Seems like it has some issues with my current configuration.

    Thanks for help.
