    I don't know anything about a config.nt file....never heard of it.

But when I tried to install an old dos game (16 bit) Win-8/32 stopped and asked me if I wanted to engage 16 bit support, , I said YES and the rest is History. The twenty year old game runs just fine.

So why don't you just try it? What could go wrong?

Why would you run msdos based apps?

And why wouldn't you, if it's a game or some other program that you like, or maybe need?

I have a Mahjong game, that I bought years ago, on a 3.5" Floppy Disk. When I installed it on W8, the installer stopped and asked me if I wanted to invoke 16 bit support. After I said "Yes" the install continued and I can now play that 20+ year old game on Win-8.

Many people have old programs that are 16 bit, that are totally out of print, that they would still like to use. I thank MS for making that possible.

Some newer programs, like ones written for Windows XP, are run best with Elevated Permissions (Administrator Privileges)

Do we have to give up our life, just because MS kicks out a new OS? NO!

If the powers that be, at MS, didn't believe there was a need to still run old 16 bit programs, they would not have made that an option in windows 8. (They didn't in vista or win 7.)

Where did you find a "config.nt" file? I'm on Windows 8 Pro/64 right now and I don't have such a file.
And if you have one, where did you get it and why do you feel the need to edit it?

Curious minds want to know! ???
