That's why I said the Windows 2000 sound, it was my first (& second) computer as well. Reminds me of the good ole days.

For me, what I like most is Windows XP, 7 and 8.

Windows ME brings back memories, also the one mostly is appealing for me was windows XP, since I had it for a long time.

Since I had my first PC, I immediately disable system sound.

Wow! Another OLD thread, being revived!

Years ago, I got an XP Service Pack on a CD, and on that CD was a beautiful musical piece that runs about thirty seconds long. A friend extracted that piece for me and I use it to this day, as my Startup sound.

Then I have my email program on all day, checking my email every three minutes. When new mail comes in, I get a very friendly female voice telling me, "you've got mail".
I snagged that .wav file off of a friends PC. He used "Compuserve" and that was their email announcement.
It's similar to AOL's announcement, but with a Female voice instead of a Male voice.

But yes!..... Windows comes out of the box with WAY too many sound effects already activated by default.

Most people don't realize that you can turn off the ones you don't want and pick and choose what you do want, so they either MUTE the sounds completely, or just turn off their speakers.

    Cheers Mates!

I used to favor the Windows 2000 sound, as posted previously. Now too old to safely run. These days, I like whichever default sound that plays when the computer fires up successfully! Seriously.

Windows 7, while once a great OS & still by far MS's most popular these days (XP is still a solid #2), is becoming crippled with all of the heavy updating. No SP for 2+ years to roll up for faster installs & smoother running, yet one of their least popular OS's these days (Windows 8) is getting a makeover less than a year after release.

Like I stated, I like any that fires up quickly. Don't care to watch that stupid looking neon circle, waiting for the computer to fire up. At the current time, I like both the default XP & Linux Mint Mate 15 sounds.

I could not access the forum for a week and just got an email asking of I could do it now. That is basically why I am writing but to actually be a part of the thread, I liked Win XP the best.
