Hi all,

After I did a clean install of windows 8 release preview, I noticed that there was nothing showing up in mail app--no Inbox, no mail of any sort. In fact, on the left panel all it said was "Mail". I click on Settings, Accounts and I could setup a Google account, no problem. But, when I tried to created the Hotmail account (which I would have thought would have been done automatically with the install) and entered my account information (which is actually a POP3 account, hosted on my own server) it said that this account had already been setup when I hit Connect. I tried switching to a Local Account and then back to a Microsoft Account, but nothing worked.

You have any diea?

The pop3 accounts are not working in the mail app yet. I suspect your problem with Hotmail is related to how you are setting it up. Let the mail app set it up automatically.

Or use WLM on the desktop until Win 8 is released in October.

Win 8 is a BETA / Preview of the apps, the POP3 function is not fully support yet, It will be support when Win 8 is released.

I am having the same problem tring to add my verizon.net email account but am not running RP. I am running RTM code - Win 8 Pro (NFR) from TechNet. Unfortunately MS does not provide any support for NFR releases.

The Metro Mail app does not appear to have an option for POP/POP3. When trying to add a new "Other Account," the only Incoming Email Server type is IMAP. I'm looking for advice on either 1) how to make this work, or 2) when a fix will be coming.

I would suspect eventually we will see an update that adds POP support to the mail app. Until then use WLM 2012. It works fine.

Thank you for the quick reply. WLM as in Windows Live Messenger?

NO, Windows Live Essentials. You can install the entire suite or any portion you wish. I chose just WLM and WL Photo Gallery, WL Movie Maker. There are 5 or 6 components (I believe) Choose what you want.

D/L'ed Win Live Essentials and replaced the Windows 8 Mail on the Start screen with Win Live Mail and Win Live Msngr. Win Live Mail works great. Doesn't look much different than my Outlook 2010 on my Win 7 PC. Setup of my Vz account was super simple.

I can't wait to get home and try this tonight!!! I just got a new laptop yesterday and spent many hours fighting with Windows 8.... this sounds like this may be the answer to (at least ONE) of my problems!! I do have one quesion that I'm sure I will have....just HOW do i replace W8 mail app on the Start Menu? I sort of got my email set up yesterday in Outlook.com.....but I can only get to that from IE (as far as I can tell) and when I click on the Mail app on Start, it keeps asking me for my Microsoft login info.....I don't want to have to log in every time i want my mail. I use RoadRunner for email, in case that matters..... Thanks for being here for us!!! I was ready to throw the whole thing out the window yesterday.... but feeling better today.
