Default Installing Windows Office Outlook 2007 on a new Windows 8 laptop

I am trying to install Windows Office Outlook 2007 Enterprise on a new Windows 8 laptop.

When I click the Outlook Icon the following Microsoft Office Outlook error box appears :

"The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action"

(I do have an office 365 account)

    Click OK.

I am presented with 2 boxes: Configuring Outlook which just says configuring Outlook Accounts and a Microsoft Exchange box asking for server and mailbox details. After completing the details ( I have tried many combinations)

There is a Check Name box which then opens a Microsoft Office Outlook error box stating "The name cannot be resolved. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." ( I am online, IE works fine)

Click OK takes me back to Microsoft Exchange box asking for server and mailbox details.

Click OK takes me to Microsoft Office Outlook error box stating " Cannot open your default e-mail folders. The file C:\Users\James\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\out look.ost is not an offline folder file."

Click OK and the application closes.

Any Ideas? I have searched knowledge base etc. but nothing refers to a Windows 8 install. I can access my Outlook account using the mail tile in Windows 8 but it is not in outlook format. I don't use the Windows 8 front end as it is very poor and have installed Start8. To get me back to the Windows 7 start button.

I do not have a touch screen and do not want to have to get used to a whole new front end.

    Thanks

I don't know if this will help or not, have you tried installing the full Office 2007 suite (if you have it) & applied all updates, including SP3 for Office 2007?

Belarc Advisor (free for personal use) will notify you of any missing updates that are needed. It's possible that there's an update that has to be manually installed for your app to properly work, or for future upgrades to work.

Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit, for software, hardware and security configuration information on your computer. Software license management, IT asset management, cyber security audits, and more.

Install the app & run it after installing & updating Office 2007 & see what comes up. Nothing to lose, have to start somewhere, the first being to make sure that all needed updates are installed.

Hopefully other members will offer suggestions, should this not help.

    Best of Luck,

    Thanks Cat,
I have installed Belarc and updated all the Windows optional and essential fixes.
Unfortunately they make no difference. I still have the same problem.

    Any more ideas?

    Thanks

    Hi Badrobot,

Which account do you mean? Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Office Live, Office 365, Online Services?
    Logged on with what?

    Many thanks.

No, your windows 8 account. When you turn on your computer, do you login using Microsoft account (where you need email and address to login) or Local account (username and password)? The system may be tying up your office installation with your Microsoft account and as such you have to log in on your Win 8 using your Microsoft account.

OK Sorry. I log in to the Microsoft account when I boot Windows.

Ah I just logged in again and I use my email address and a password. So that probably means I am logged into a local account? I am not sure.

If you are seeing your email address at startup screen, that means you are logged in to MS account.
