A couple of other things you could try. Open the Control Panel - Default Programs - "Set your default Programs"
Find Windows Live Mail and make sure it is set as the default.

Open Firefox /Tools, and !. "Clear recent history".
In options, open the Privacy Tab and click "remove individual cookies" . In the window which opens, "Remove all cookies." 3. In the Applications" tab, next to mail to, , if it does not say Use Windows Live Mail, click whatever it does say and select Windows live mail.
If that doesn't do the trick, then maybe Drew's suggestion is an option, but may not be where you want to go?

    Davehv and Drew,
Thank you again for beeing so kind and persistent. But I have still not solved my problem. I have tried to follow your suggestions, but I do not understand what it can be.
I have reinstalled Windows Live Mail, checked the security settings as far as I can, taken away Norton and checked the mail settings against my old Outlook settings, and been thru the last suggestions from you, Davehv.

The free Outlook version I have seen, does not attrackt me. I still hope to solve the problem with WL Mail, but I do not know how.
If there are any more suggestions, I will be thankful, again.

New discovery: Sending mail from Outlook with Format Option "Plain text" (= Ren tekst in Norwegian) works fine! Attachments are available.
But with format HTML or "Rich text" does not work!

Does this tell somebody something? I feel I suddenly am halfway. But I would like to be able to see the attachments in all formats.

Hansjr, Please keep me up to date on your situation. I have an HP notebook Pavilion dv6 running windows 7 and I am experiencing the exact same problem you are. I have not yet tried an email with "plain text".

    Hello golfer,
The problem seems to have "faded away". I do get attachments from all of my friends.
I have a feeling that the format I was testing ("Rich text") probably is seldom in use?
I have actually not done any specific action since my last entry at this forum.

That is interesting. I deleted an expired version of Norton and turned off “Avast”, my other antivirus, and I did get two emails with attachments overnight. But it has failed consistently, when I tested it this morning. It is really strange.

Could it be that the messages that do not show the attachments are being sent from an EXCHANGE outlook, and the Exchange has a default message format of HTML/Rich Text which WinMail can not process? I have heard this issue before and it seems to have to do with what the sender is running. For Exchange clients even if the sender selects plain text, the EXCHANGE server can ignore that setting and send out their configured default preference.

Just wondering if this issue found a solution at all..

Hi. As I said in May: the problem faded away! I live happily reading all the attatchments. I don't know about EXCHANGE versions.
    But thanks anyway.

I realize I'm replying to a rather old entry but...

What the hell am I reading, here??!! Never, ever, have more than ONE anti-virus in a machine or lingering pieces thereof in a computer @ the same time. I trust I have said this clearly enough.

    Cheers,
    Drew
