Any ideas on how I can get a few of my new computer's apps to work? A couple of them will open and immediately close. This is happening in:
Photos (Live tile is updated to show my pics, still not opening)
Calendar

This also happened with two Facebook app's that I downloaded from the store, but I deleted them within a few minutes because they would not open, this was before I realized the two above app's that came pre-installed would also not stay open.

I have only had this computer for three days - this has been happening from Day 1.

You need to contact MS about the Store APPs that are giving you problems... it may not be anything to do w/ the OS or the machine.

Hi,

I am also experiencing this problem and was wondering if you had managed to get any assistance from Microsoft about this.
I am running windows 8 in a dual boot with windows 7 on my (packard bell) desktop.

I installed in February and it has been working fine for the past four months.

Some of the metro apps that I have installed g and some of the pre-installed app (e.g. mail, maps etc.) are now no longer working. The apps open the splash screen then get stuck for between 1 and 25 seconds. It then just takes me back to the start screen.

Please help if you can

Thank

Either fun a Repair on the OS or re-install it. You can't go to Packard-Bell or Microsoft if it was/is originally Windows 7 and you added Windows 8.

How would I run a repair? I have been searching lots of forums for solutions to this problem and others have found that un-installing 3rd party antivirus software solved this problem. This hasn't worked for me.

I cannot re-install the OS because W8 needs a product key. I would therefore have to buy a new licence to do this, wouldn't I? Also, how would I preserve installed programs etc.?

Why shouldn't MIcrosoft be responsible since I bought the operating system off them in the first place with a valid licence. It is running on an independent partition on he hard drive so surely having the W7 and W8 both on the PC shouldn't have an effect on the usability of the system.

'42',

1. There is no need or reason to have any 3rd Party A-V in it, in the 1st place.
2. You don't need another Key, if it was to be re-installed since, you, already, have its Key.
3. You can try a Refresh. > General under PC Settings. There is one option that keeps your data (you will need to re-install programs/software) & one that puts it back to "factory" & loses everything. If, you use the latter you have to save everything (data) you want kept to flash drive, DVD or an External HDD.
4. F8 @ boot-up should get you to the Repair & other troubleshooting options. This can be tricky when a dual-boot scenario.
5. Now that I have more info about your situation, yes, do give MS a call... the # is 1-866-727-2338

I trust some or any of the above will help.

Thank you very much.

The only issue I is that I am in the UK. Do you know if they have a specific UK helpdesk or should I just call the US one and pay the international charges for it.

Thanks

Sorry, I do not know if there is a UK specific #. You should be able to find that out by going to the Microsoft UK web site.

I'm just w/ a client @ the moment. When I can I try to look for you but, by then you'll prolly have it.

'42',

I found it...

(0)844 800 2400

I started here, Microsoft UK | Devices and Services (http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/default.aspx) and clicked Support & just kept digging along until I found the UK phone # for Product & Service Support.

Belarc Advisor (free software) gives a comprehensive view of your system including all Product Keys if these have not been previously recorded. Therefore if you have preloaded Windows etc and need to find the keys download and run Belarc Advisor. Very easy to use.
