Hi guys,
I just installed windows 8 release preview last week. However, I have experienced a few freezes. The computer always freezes suddenly though everything seems to work fine. When freezing, the mouse can move. I tried to press CTL+ALT+Delete to open task manager, then all freezes and the mouse can't move.
Is it related to my specs or my something else?

Hard to tell because you do not list any specs. Quite often these type problems can be fixed with Clean Reinstalls using a new ISO download and a new DVD.

Hope this helps. Thank you.

I would definitely reinstall Win 8 RP. Your installation is corrupt. Start over from scratch and download the ISO file again, then burn to a DVD. Boot to the new DVD and Custom (Clean) install Win 8 RP.

It's always possible that it could also be a browser/other software installed causing the issue. Yesterday, I upgraded Firefox to the latest, 14.0.1, had issues most of last night & today. Reinstalled 13.0.1 & all is fine.
3rd party security apps that's not quite "Windows 8 ready", even though the site may state that it is, can also cause these type of things. I've tried several, the only one that I've found that doesn't cause issues to date (besides Windows Defender) is Avast Free (version 7). Other apps that covers malware/spyware, such as MBAM (Free or Pro) or SuperAntiSpyware (Free or Pro) hasn't caused issues on my Windows 8 RP or CP.

What freeze issue was this? Patch Tuesday was 9 days ago.
Must not have affected all computers, as mine was running fine. Usually the only time it doesn't is while trying 3rd party AV/IS suites, which I've given up on for the time being. I'm running Windows Defender until ESET Smart Security (my preferred brand) is Windows 8 ready. Tired of chasing down security software. Another of my paid apps, Raxco's Perfect Disk 12.5 isn't ready yet either, but I was emailed that it would be soon (ESET responded similarly).
Anyway, I hope that any issues were corrected by the patches last week. I noticed that there were more than usual. Remember to check Windows Update at least 2 times a week, as updates for Win 8 RP are often out of the normal update cycle. Especially driver related updates. More devices are added each week.

OK, I see it now. I don't have that chipset, even on my Intel based MSI notebook (i5 480M CPU) that was released in Q1/11. That was just before the Sandy Bridge ones were released.
Hopefully, the users of computers with these chipsets have applied the update by now & that Win 8 RP is now running well for them.

On Win-8/RP/64, I'm running Firefox 14.0.1 and the new Beta AVG 2013 and having absolutely NO problems.
No Freezes, no lags or BSOD's. Just running like a scalded dog!
I'm running the same browser and AV on Win-7/Home Premium/64, which I just installed, and having no problems there either.
