View Full Version : How to uninstall Windows 8 in Daul Boot setup?

I dual boot Windows 8 with Windows 7, Now I would like to stick with Windows 7. My question is how to uninstall Windows 8 in this dual boot configuration? If I directly delete the partition where Windows 8 is installed, the bootup process will still display the dual boot main menu, right?

You can delete the Win 8 partition, then use msconfig to delete the Win 8 option in the MBR. I also use EasyBCD (http://download.cnet.com/EasyBCD/3000-2094_4-10556865.html) for this as it has more features than msconfig. Make sure you then choose Win 7 as default.

Make sure you change the MBR before rebooting after deleting the Win 8 partition, otherwise your PC will not boot.

Afterward you can use Disk Management to resize your Win 7 partition to include the unallocated space after you delete Win 8, or create a new simple volume for other uses by formatting the space. (This assumes your Win 7 was installed first) If your Win 8 partition is in front of the Win 7 partition you would need a 3rd partition partitioning app to reclaim this space. Something such as Partition Wizard (http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html) works well for this.
