Hi all,

Does Microsoft Office 2003 work correctly with Windows 8? And will it work correctly with the RTM version of Windows 8? I am planning to install Windows 8 but used to Office 2003.

Thank you for any hints or suggestions.

There may be other IT Pros that know more specifically about this but, I will say that the version of Office you put on Win8 should not matter. Expect it to be fine; 2003, 2007 or 2010 all should work correctly.

Just try to install Office 2003 in your Windows 8, keep it there if it goes well. Replace it with Office 2007 or 2010 if not.

I am using Office 2007 with my Windows 8.

I'm using Office 2007 Ultimate also on Win 8 RP w/no issues. Still a decent Office app. Of course, one can always run what he/she wishes, but Office 2003 & Office XP has, or soon will be, totally out of support options, free or paid.

Even Office 2007 is about to go to paid support only, aside from updates. There was a SP3 issued for the app a while back. Read more here about Office 2007. Extended support is still good until 10/10/2017.

Office 2007 gets a six-month support extension from Microsoft | ZDNet (http://www.zdnet.com/blog/microsoft/office-2007-gets-a-six-month-support-extension-from-microsoft/12406)

I highly suggest to all Windows 8 RP users who have very old Office suites to at least consider an upgrade to Office 2007, at a minimum. Preferably Office 2010. It's successor is soon to be released as a beta, hopefully this summer.

Good point. Where 2003, I would expect to install & run & still, pull Updates there, certainly, is the Support issue w/ legacy software.

Not to mention, 7 & 10 are improvements over 2003.

Microsoft Office 2003 works IF YOU UPGRADE to Windows 8 Pro. However, Office 2003 uses a Visual Fox database that is NOT compatible with Windows 8.
Another problem is that .NET 3.5 (including 2.0 and 3.0) poses problems. If you have 3rd party software that requires .NET 3.5, you might experience problems updating your Windows 8. My suggestion is if you upgrade to Windows 8 Pro, do it without saving your files, programs, and settings; in other words, do a CLEAN install. You will have to upgrade your MS Office to at least 2007 version. Good luck.
