This windows 8 tutorials is about windows defender. If Windows Defender can't update virus and spyware definintions. Starts process of downloading, then installing updates, but terminates and gives you the error message:

Windows Defender couldn't complete the virus and spyware definitions update due to internet or network connectivity problem".

Here is the fix.

1. Go to "Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools" and open up "Services."

Do it by a new way
- Press "Windows + C" on the keyboard to open "Charms."
- Click "Search."
- Click "Settings" from the right pane and type "services" in the search box.
- Open "View local services" from the left pane.

2. Stop "Windows Defender Service."
3. Go to "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows Defender."
4. Change the folder name from "Windows Defender" to "Windows Defender_" just in case.
5. Start "Windows Defender Service."

This will recreate the "Window Defender" folder and now the update should work properly.

("Windows Defender_" folder is locked, but you can use Unlocker to delete it.)
