View Full Version : Not Alone

I know I am not alone in what I feel or what I am about to try & express, here & now.

I am a Microsoft Beta-tester & an IT Pro. I have colleagues, in tech forums & outside them, who, also, both, as well & before me, have voiced sentiments along similar lines.

Please, accept a couple of fundamentals:

1. A BETA OS should/must be handled properly.
2. A BETA OS, by its nature, is not necessarily perfect or even, ideal.
3. Real-time Break/FIX scenarios are often not @ issue w/ BETA OSs.
4. Accept that Windows8 is Windows8 not, any other Windows OS

1. Forums can offer what "properly" means but, cannot pick up the pieces after, things have been done improperly... nor is MS or Windows8 to blame.
2. Don't expect betas to be problem-free
3. Forums can discuss betas. Beta OS issues cannot, necessarily, have a known FIX offered... this goes back to the "betas are unsupported" concept.
4. As IT Pros & Microsoft Partners we must learn & know Operating Systems to support our clients, customers & End Users. IT is best for both of us, the helpers & the helpees, to, @ least, initially, work w/ Windows8,as is... the Out-of-the-Box experience.

Cheers,
Drew

I have found that not only are the installation procedures (Process) used a large culprit in whether a Beta OS performs flawlessly or has lots of problems, but also this is determined by the combination of H/W and S/W present on the system.

Beta OS's, by their very nature, are NOT trouble free. They have problems and are incomplete. Many of the people using this Beta OS have no idea of this concept. Hence they install it incorrectly, use it incorrectly (using it for important work) and they complain about something not working correctly. Folks, that is why a Beta OS is released, so the testers can identify problems, AND REPORT THOSE PROBLEMS TO MS. Many of the people using this OS do not even realize this is a Beta OS. They simply DO NOT read the instructions and warnings posted by MS and by us.

This is the biggest reason why we say if you do not know what a Beta OS is, and what and/or how to fix the problems that are inevitable then those persons should not be using a Beta OS.
