Windows 8 RP is running on my HP laptop, everything goes well except can't update. Now, Windows Update fails repeatedly with error 8024402F. The update Troubleshooter has (twice) claimed to fix "Potential Windows Update Database error detected 0x80070490" and "Windows Update components must be repaired"

Have you experienced the same or any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

My guess is that a refresh or reset may be needed. Open the Action Center, you'll see Recovery on the lower right of the box, click onto that, these options will be there. Note that your install disk, as well as your COA (install key) may be needed.

You may wish to hold off to see if another member has a better idea, but given the seriousness of the matter, it's looking as though you'll need to do this.

Have you installed some programs on your computer? Disable any antivirus software installed on the computer and Windows firewall and then try and check if the issue persists.
