Hello all,

I'd like to install Windows 8 on my dell inspiron 1720 laptop.

I was wondering if someone knows from experience if the NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT graphic card will work correctly in Windows 8?

Any ideas? Many thanks in advance.

Yes, it will work fine. Visit Dell's site to download the Windows 7 driver and install.

zx81, you might wish to wait until the next beta, Win 8 RP is released. It is rumored to be coming out on Friday. This next beta will require a clean install.

I suspect this next beta will include more of the updated drivers than Win 8 CP did.

NVidea GeForce is one company that has written video card drivers for their newer products.

www.geforce.com/drivers

is a good place to start. I found drivers there for my new GeForce 210 video card.
Surprise! Surprise!

Other companies may follow suit, at least by the time that Windows 8 is officially released in October.

But having said that.....I've personally found that in most cases, the generic video drivers supplied with Win-8 are sufficient, for the purposes of "BETA TESTING" where this version of the OS will be GONE soon anyway.

I've installed Win-8 on several totally different computers so far, and I've been very pleased at how well the default drivers work. Hopefully, the final version of Windows 8 will be even better.

Cheers Mates!

For those with ATI cards, there is a beta release of Win 8 drivers. See this thread (http://www.forumswindows8.com/graphic-cards/amd-catalyst-drivers-windows-8-consumer-preview-6403.htm).
