First, Do not replace your Win 7 installation. Set up a dual boot scenario. Win 8 CP and Win 8 RP when it is released next week are beta OS's. They ARE NOT COMPLETE. You are lucky your Win 7 was restored. Never replace a released OS with a beta OS.

If you do not know how to set up a dual boot, read the many threads in these forums. We have discussed this several times.

Win 8 CP and Win 8 RP are beta OS's to be used for testing only. They are not released OS's. They have problems. If you do not know how to recover from a disaster you should not be playing with a beta OS. You will have problems with Win 8 CP.

The real Win 8 is not expected until sometime in October.

At this point, it would be best to wait for Windows 8 RP, as there's some things that's well documented on this forum that doesn't work. Plus, you would have to redo a clean install & re-install the software that you've installed. No need to do all of that twice in a week.

Ted created a sticky to cover this issue, how to install Windows 8 RP.

Concerns before installing Win 8 RP (http://www.forumswindows8.com/news/how-install-win-8-rp-when-released-june-5883.htm)

Steps to install Win 8 RP

(http://www.forumswindows8.com/installation-setup/steps-install-win-8-rp-when-released-read-before-you-download-iso-file-6411.htm)There's some good reading in that thread, it was made into a sticky due to it's an important topic in regard to moving forward to Windows 8 RP. If you follow the instructions in the thread, you should be fine.

Cat I edited the link slightly to point both to the thread showing the concerns and to the thread showing the correct steps. Hope that was OK.

Yes, it's fine with me, Ted. Now if only readers of this forum will adhere to this advice, there will be a lot more happier users of Win 8 RP. It's always best to have a game plan in place, as I did well before Windows 8 CP was released on 02/29. I'll repeat that plan, installing Windows 8 onto that same old WD 40GB HDD (all by itself, where no harm can be done), make sure that all is running fine for a week, then format the partition that Windows 8 CP is presently residing on & take it from there.

But something tells me that some will still do it their own way. It never fails. And then wonder what happened.

Thanks. You are both right. I should wait for RP. Thanks to God. I am back to windows 7 and lose nothing. Many thanks to you.

When you start to test Win 8 RP again, keep Win 7 and use the methods we have discussed in other threads to set up a different method of installing so you preserve your Win 7 installation.

It's crazy to wipe out an operational released OS such as Win 7 to install a beta OS such as Win 8 RP. We have discussed how to install Win 8 RP without touching Win 7 several places in these forums. I am not going to list these things again because reading the threads will give you more knowledge to perform the installation right.
