I'm not sure but think it may need to be a primary partition. Do a search on that.

I also believe your problem is related to your partitioning scheme. You Win 7 partition is a primary partition. You have an extended partition with 4 logical partitions, there also appears to be some other form of partition present.

The problem seems to be related to the fact that Win 8 CP cannot be installed in a logical drive and you can't just change it's designation to active or primary. You have delete and/or reformat it to show it as empty so that Win 8 CP can then set the drive up as appropriate.

I think you have to take the space you are trying to install Win 8 CP into and format it. This should then leave this space as unallocated. Have you downloaded the iso file from a known good source? Have you burned that iso file to a DVD at a slow burn rate? Boot to the DVD and when asked choose Custom Install and point toward the unallocated space to install there.

I would do this stuff from within Win 7. I might also choose to do this with a 3rd party partitioning app such as Partition Wizard (http://www.partitionwizard.com/download.html)or EaseUS Partition Magic (http://www.partition-tool.com/download.htm).

Glad I could help. Remember the next beta is due out in about a week. This next beta will also require a clean install so be ready for it. You'll have to do a similar thing to install it.
