StatCounter has declared Google Chrome the king of all desktop browsers based on recent market share data, but observers should take this claim to the throne with a grain of salt.

StatCounter's data shows 32.76 percent share for Chrome and 31.94 percent for IE, while NetMarketShare shows 54.01 percent share for IE and 18.85 percent for Chrome.

As long as Windows has the market share they do, IE will continue to have a large market share. As stated in the article it depends on who you believe how this data should be read.

If you read ZDNet, Chrome is the only browser to use. This is all someone's opinion, and who is paying for the study directly or indirectly with their advertising dollars.

I dunno how to read, so I'll just blindly, contentedly stay w/ IE9/10

I do have FF & Chrome installed, on some OS or another... only use 'em once in a blue moon. Anyone ever seen a blue moon? I think there was one over Kentucky once. I should write a song about that...

Cheers,
Drew

IE has been on it's way out for a while. It was a really good browser, until version 8 (really heavy) came out in the spring of 2009. IE9 was released for Vista SP2/Windows 7, but by then, the damage was done.

Problem with stat counters, is that they're not always accurate. Also included in these same stats are OS installs, how much (as a percentage) is using a particular version of Windows, Vista, XP or below, Apple's version of OS's & Linux variants. If the IE count is off, then so is the percentage of OS's used.

Also, keep in mind that Vista/Windows 7 doesn't use IE for updating, but XP uses IE6, 7 or 8. The XP user who only uses IE for updating throws these figures off, giving IE a more favorable usage number.

I normally use Firefox 12, but sometimes, it throws a fit, & I use Opera. More addons for both than IE offers, plus when on XP Mode, I'm not running a 3 year old browser.
