So let me see, your using a beta OS that you probably upgraded from your previous OS rather than Clean Installed, on a somewhat marginal although serviceable system to multitask while you download from torrent sites that have always been questionable to start with.

You probably got Win 8 CP from one of these torrent sites to start with so that was also questionable. Your previous OS was probably running marginally because of your browsing habits and downloading habits. And now you would like us to fix your problems. Hmmm.

Well, first and foremost, do a complete Clean Install, using a good download from an approved site (previously mentioned) burn the iso file to DVD and reinstall from the DVD. Reinstall all your apps.

Next do change your surfing and downloading habits and do not do any of the surfing you have been doing because your problems could be due to all kinds of problems you are getting from these questionable sites.

I know you will not follow this advise, so lets see what happens when Win 8 RP is released in early June and your Win 8 CP deactivates shortly thereafter. There is NO upgrade path from one beta to another beta so you will have to do a clean install. Have fun!

Yup, that pretty well sums it up.
With such a gross lack of information, about your computer, what OS you're actually using, where you got it and how you installed it, that leaves us to rely on our imagination to fill in the blanks.

All that aside, did you shutdown any Services?
Did you tell windows how many CPU cores you want it to use?
(MSCONFIG > Boot.ini > Advanced )
Did you trim down the number of TSR's you have running in the background?
(MSCONFIG > Startup)

With so little hardware resources, you should never try to do two things at once.
You're shooting yourself in the foot if you do.

I never use Torrents! Because, I've been told that many of those sites are really bad news.
I download only from GOOD sites and I use "Internet Download Manager" to get a 10X download
speed increase.

Good Luck!

My advise to all posters is:
If you want to get something, then GIVE something, Like all the information we ask for, in the "Read before you Post" section.

If I'm sitting at someone's PC, I don't have to ask many questions, because I can usually get all the info I need right off of the PC, but, when the PC is half a world away, we need to know EVERYTHING!

It's just that simple.

It could be a lot of things. Some auto backup software like Smartware that comes with WD external drive is a huge resource hog. If using a third party AV it could be that since he mentioned torrents.

I'm not going to be too hard on you, because at least you posted your basic hardware specs. A lot more than many new members does. So I'm going to tell you like it is.

Those specs listed above closely resembles mine (check out "My System Specs" below). My CPU is a dual core 1.5GHz, have 4GB of DDR2 RAM installed (of which 256MB goes to video). Are you running a 32 or 64 bit Windows 8 CP? If you have 4GB RAM, subtract 256MB for the video card, that would leave you 3.75GB to work with, rather than 3.37GB, if you have a 64 bit OS installed. Being that I don't know if you can run 64 bit or not, I cannot advise as to what to do, but if it's 64 bit capable, run the 64 bit OS, you'll have more usable RAM.

Are you telling me that with these specs, you're actually listening to music, downloading a torrent file & attempting to launch a game? Note that there are system services running, plus your security software (if installed), these also uses your already not very high specs. Using torrent services also uses resources, & if not careful, can get infected with malicious software. Hopefully, you're obtaining legal software with this service, such as Linux ISO's & not pirated/cracked to work software.

The PC that's listed in my specs (close to yours), I'm running Windows 8 CP x64 on, but I'm not trying to do all of those things at the same time, the CPU/RAM would both hit the ceiling. It's running perfectly fine.

Please post back with more detailed specs about your computer, like the make & model, as much as you can provide. And what AV/IS suite you're running, if any. The more info that you provide, the more assistance we can offer.

Hi Ghost, welcome to our Windows 8 forums.

First of all, you should run an anti-virus program to see whether your system has been infected by some viruses or not. If infected, remove them.

And if that did not help, try to download some optimization program and install it on your windows 8. For example, I am using windows 8 32 bit and Advanced SystemCare Free has running for a long time so far. I am really love it so much.

Advanced SystemCare is an easy-to-use, quick system analyzer and optimizer. It can not only fixes the most common computer problems but can make your PC faster and more stable."

hope you can enjoy it.
