Hi all,

Currently I am using windows XP. I would like to have a try on windows 8 consumer preview, but I dont like uninstall windows XP before the final version of windows 8 is released. So I want to keep my current windows XP and dual boot with windows 8 consumer preview on a separate partition. During installation, I got the error message, sayting that "this platform is not supported".
Win8 CP will not install on an XP system? What need I do? Thank you.

Do you have a spare HD to install Win 8 CP onto? You may want to hold off for a few weeks. Win 8 RP is due to be released in early June. This next beta will require a Clean Install anyway.

Have you created an Image of the XP system before you start?

Have you created a separate partition on the XP system already of say 50 GB to install Win 8 CP into.

I listed the various steps in this thread (http://www.forumswindows8.com/installation-setup/couldnt-create-new-partition-locate-existing-one-6069.htm). See if these help.

Sounds like you are mixing x86 & x64

Yes, i have created a separate partition on the XP system, but I am not sure if its 50 GB. Anyway, I gave up windows XP. I have installed totally windows 8. Looks everything is good. Thanks, guys! :)

'Robt',

You do realise that you have just installed a beta OS that expires & will leave you w/ nothing, yes? Beta2 comes out next month. That can only be clean installed, no upgrade path to it from anything exists. The Beta2, also, expires.

Good luck.

Cheers,
Drew

People not willing to put in the work will find that ultimately they will regret it. When Win 8 CP stops working and everything goes bye, bye, then people will start saying "What the HELL happened now"! Well at that point we can say "We told you so"!

In a couple of weeks Win 8 RP is being released. The work will have to be put in once again because shortly thereafter Win 8 CP will deactivate. People have to listen.

Anyway, since OP has his answer and did not take the advise offered this thread is closed.
