At times, a user may need to install the popular Ubuntu OS in dual with Windows 8 for some reasons. Though dual booting Windows 8 and Ubuntu (Windows 8 installed first) is pretty easy, the only catch is that the installer doesn’t recognize Windows 8 partition. In other words, you can’t use the straight-forward install Ubuntu alongside with Windows option during setup. So, how to dual boot Windows 8 and Ubuntu?

If you are looking for a simple way to install Windows 8 in dual boot with Ubuntu (Windows 8 installed first), follow the step-by-step instructions given below.

threeone, many thanks! I run the latest Ubuntu 12.04 LTS x64 myself. Will also install Mint 13 LTS when released. The mainstream versions of Linux are a great alternative to Windows, in particular those XP users who cannot afford a modern OS.

All one needs to know to get started with Linux is to be able to install the OS (the installer takes care of the drivers) & be able to run Firefox. Chrome & Opera are easily added to the OS.

Great Tutorial!

I have a feeling that there will be many more Windows 7 & Ubuntu dual booters, than Windows 8 & Ubuntu, partially due to price of Windows 8, secondly many users going for the latest Ubuntu is less likely to purchase Windows 8.

A great tutorial though, & will be used by many, especially during the Windows 8 RP release to compare versions. Ubuntu 12.04 isn't a totally 100% finished OS itself, though a huge improvement over past versions. It is the very first version of Linux that configured my printer by simply turning it on. Needless to say, a total shock to me. Normally, I have to do the command line install, which isn't as intimidating as it looks.
