Hi :)

Anyone have any idea how to take screenshots or use Snipping Tool in the metro interface?

I would really like to share my experiences with Windows 8 and maybe help others find the answers to their questions but I am having a touch time figuring out how to get screen grabs of metro and apps.

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi buddy, you can try to press Windows Key + Print Screen to automatically take a screenshot and save it in your Pictures library.

HI gamers,

In some laptops, Fn Key (Function Key) + Prt Sc does the some job.

However you can use ScreenCaptor software to grab screenshot of Metro Apps. I always use it and you can configure it according to your needs.

Also the screenshots are save in high resolution PNG formats.

You can get it here : donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/screenshotcaptor/index.html

I just use Prt Sc, then paste to Paint or PhotoFiltre to customize as I wish then save to where ever I wish for viewing or posting. Obviously there are many ways to do this. Find what works best for you and do it that way.

Right on, Ted! Looking at the previous suggestions! One key works for me also.
But I have read that, for some reason, the simple Printscreen key doesn't work for all But a major problem is, if that is the desire, _ how to grab the whole screen. Mine, for example, without mod, scrolls over 2½ screens.
Most third party and paid for screen capture programs will only scroll up and down, and will also vanish into the fog when you start to try and record. But most have a "movie" recorder, which can be used. I use Snagit for such purposes.
But I have found that one of the simplest, and most straightforward, methods, is to use the built in Windows screen "Step recorder". This is the beauty of the PSR! No Problem. Start PSR (Type "psr" in the search box if you cannot find it, I have it pinned)- Start Record. Now select the Metro screen again (Win Key or bottom left) - Scroll across the screen. Press Win+D to get back on the desktop, or just Alt+O to stop recording. You can then edit out whatever you want.
Sounds complicated, but basically it is two clicks to start and stop the program. The remaining selection of the portions you want to capture, is up to you.

davehc, sounds very interesting, but my libraries aren't working on Windows 8 CP. Can't even save a simple screenshot (Win + PS).

It doesn't matter if they work or not, my downloads, documents & pictures goes to similar named folders on my Data partition. My Data is & will always be separate from my OS. But how does one have control of where the Win + PS pics are going? The pictures are taken, but I can't find them.

Dave, Thanks. Had not heard about PSR previously. This will record multiple Windows as long as you keep the recorder running. When I have time I will have to play more with it. Very nice find.

Prntscrn pictures don't actually go anywhere Cat. They are on the clipboard.. As Ted advises, it is necessary to paste them somewhere first, then you can manage them.

Hi Ted. Well, it isn't too well advertised. But I send quite a bit of feedback to MS, through there recommended channels. They don't insist, but are very happy when you send them a PSR of the bug.

As discussed previously various keystrokes will take a Prt Sc and save to certain location, but I always want to edit the screen shot, either crop or highlight or add text, or what ever. These type of edits are easy in apps such as Paint or PhotoFiltre, so I just paste the Prt Sc to the app (as Dave mentioned when you choose Prt Sc, the screen shot is temporarily placed on the clipboard). Once I make my edits, I Save To my desktop as a jpg file. These can then be put directly into a post using the Insert Image icon in the Task Bar above:
