Hi,

I tried to install windows 8 on an empty hard drive on my computer which is running Windows XP.

However, about 25% of the installation when I received the Error message as follows:

The installation was cancelled.

Windows cannot install required file. the file does not exist. make sure all files required for installation are available. Error code ox80070003.


Please let me know If anyone has had this problem and have solved it. Thank You

Have the same problem with my Windows 7, not Windows 8. Hope my suggestion might helps.

I would advise you to use a different DVD drive, or maybe copying the installation files to a USB stick (4gb or bigger) and performing a USB install. The error 0x80070017 translates to "CRC Error" which means that the files that are being copied from the disk are not making it to the hard drive with the same structure, meaning that the "original" files on the disk are being modified/changed/corrupted while being copied to the "destination" location on your hard drive during the install.

This usually means either a bad DVD, or a read error on the DVD drive.

If you are using a DVD burn it at 4X max also do a hash check of your download mad make sure it's good.
