Hi all,

I would like to install windows 8 virtual box. When opened VirtualBox and tried to install, a error message pops up and tolld me that I need to have a 64 bit processor. However, in factm I have a 64 bit processor and I am currently running Win7 64 bit. So that sounds strange.

VirtualBox was set up with 2048 memory and a 20gb virtual drive.

Any one have some suggestions to help get it installed on VirtualBox? Thx.

You might need a bios upgrade or a change in your bios to enable hardware virtualization. This is what fixed this problem for me.

Not all chip sets have vitalization check that out first then see if it needs to be enabled in BIOS. It is frequently disabled by default. Some Windows updates may also reset it to disabled.

I've ran 64 bit OS's via VirtualBox, but it seems that the 32 bit ones performs better. Windows 8 CP x64 ran very poor using VBox for me. I usually lend 2 to 3GB RAM to mine, & it's plenty. To add to the above suggestions that are good ones, make sure that the VM itself is properly configured.

I have my CPU settings to the number of cores that the CPU has (2), this improves performance. Some users overlooks this option. Being that it's a 64 bit OS, adding 512MB to 1GB of RAM wouldn't hurt either, if you can spare it.

Personally, I'd go with the 32 bit Windows 8 CP, regardless of which VM software I'm using. Unless I had a real powerhouse of a computer, like a decent quad core (Core2Quad or i5 & i7, AMD has a few also), & plenty of RAM. 8GB is plenty, 12 to 16GB is optimal to run both a 64 bit OS & 64 bit VM.

I also had to enable virtualization in the BIOS on my AMD based desktop, my Intel based notebook has it turned on by default within the CPU, there's no BIOS option for it. Mabye it's the difference between AMD & Intel, or MB's. It's still worth checking out.
