I recently installed the Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

When I was using Vista on my Gateway laptop, I had the Touch Pad disabled. Now I installed W8, it enabled it again. Thats not convient for me because my arm always touches or click on the pad. How can I disable the pad with windows 8? Thank you!

How did you disable it in Vista? On my laptop I have an app that starts with Windows called Apoint from Alps pointing device. This is the touchpad S/W. Do you have something similar on your laptop?

I don't have that problem, but if I did, I would either try to UN-Install the driver for the Touchpad, or just cover it up with a piece of stiff paper, like an index card or a legal tablet back and some Scotch Tape.

I just went to my own laptop running Win-8/CP/32 and twice tried to disable the Touchpad and each time the PC rebooted, only to reinstall the drivers for the device. If Windows can see the device, it will try to install compatible drivers for it. Sorry, that's just the way Windows works. That can be either very helpful, or a real PITA.

A Touchpad is as much an integral part of a laptop as the hard drive. The only sure-fire way to disable it is to unplug it from the motherboard. (a tricky maneuver, to say the least) Then the drivers would still have to be UN-Installed, to prevent "Device Not Found" error messages.

The simplest answer, all the way around, is to just cover up the Touchpad. Eh?

Good Luck!
