View Full Version : Troubleshoot Compatibility Issues in Windows 8 Consumer Preview

Since Windows 8 Consumer Preview is beta, you might not be able to find compatible version for Windows 8 in some cases. Some of you might have issue with compatibility in Windows 8 Consumer Preview. Compatibility could be with software or hardware. Follow these steps to troubleshoot your compatibility issues:

1) Firstly, make sure that you are using windows 8 consumer preview. If not, please upgrade or do a fresh install of Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

2) Connect your devices and open Windows Update and let it run and check for update and install all update and then restart your PC, many of drivers or compatibility issues will address by Windows Update. If there was any update download and install them and then restart your PC.

3) If there wasn't any update, then check Windows 8 compatibility center (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/en-US/CompatCenter/Home) and search your device and see compatibility status of your device there.

4) If your device wasn't listed there, check Action Center in control panel some compatibility issue could explained there.

5) Right click on application and chose check for compatibility, it will helps you to resolve many of compatibility issues through step by step solution.

6) Download latest version for software or hardware from their website that is compatible with Windows 7. Since Windows 8 Consumer Preview is beta, you might not be able to find compatible version for Windows 8 in some cases. But majority of applications that runs in Windows 7 should run in Windows 8 fine.

7) If windows detect issue and ask to report it send report and even it take long time please wait for a while to process be done.

8)Try uninstalling software and restarting your PC and then installing latest version of software.

9) If the issue is that Windows thinks that wireless capability has been turned off in your device and it is definitely turned on in BIOS and with the hardware switch, and the wireless WLAN radio toggle switch is disabled for the software switch in control panel. Bring up your wifi device's advanced property pages from Device Manager and scroll through the options looking for any entry that could indicate the driver for the device might not be using the device in full power mode.

10) If above solutions didn’t work, try contacting software or hardware manufacturer support and reporting this or just post issue in their forums.

For option 1 above, I would always recommend the Custom (Clean) install, I would never recommend the Upgrade Install. There are just too many chances of creating problems with the upgrading to Win 8 CP.
