View Full Version : FTP Client slow at downloading

I'm using FTP Rush 2.1.8 on 2 separate machines. 1.Win8 2.Xp home..
On pc number 2 all is fine and download speeds are as they should be around the 1.5mb.
On pc number 1 I'm lucky if I get 90kbps, should be at least 1.5mb.
I was wondering if this is a problem with Win8 as both pc's are running identical FTP Rush?
Look forward to reading your replies.

I have to believe it's something other than Win 8 CP. My Win 8 CP OS will connect and download just as fast as my Win 7 OS (I get about 1.7 Mb/sec) These however are on the same machine in a dual boot scenario, so the same hardware. I do not know anything about FTP Rush or your hardware configurations, but I have to believe your differences are being caused by those as opposed to Win 8 CP.

Replacement, is the age-old standard method of troubleshooting.
I too have never heard of that "Rush" program. It may just be incompatible with Win-8.
Some programs that puke on Win-8/64, work great on Win-8/32.
Some time back, after getting a fast broadband connection, it was still taking me hours to download movies and OS's. A very good friend suggested that I try "Internet Download manager" (IDM) and I did and I've never regretted it. So far it appears to be working OK on Win-8, as well as every other OS that I've tried it on. It gives me up to 10X the download speed as without it. It's a Retail program, but they do have a FREE trial period. It can be bought for as low as $17.
Just a thought
EDIT: On the other hand There are enhancements to some browsers that just make them work much faster and more efficiently.
There is a whole page of enhancements for Mozilla Firefox, for instance.
Then too, there are enhancements to the connections protocols in the registry.
There are about 70+ of them and NO person could sit there at the keyboard and know how to set each one. But there is ONE program that can do that for you and it greatly speeds up your (my) internet connection.
The Program I use is "AVG Tune-UP". Not free but well worth the investment.
It also can clean up the HD and registry and even re-compress the registry.
BACKUP! BACKUP! BACKUP! Ghost Rocks!

Well, in the free ftprush release, default buffers are setted to 8 kbytes (options --> transfert), just increase them until your download speed is correct :) i have setted them to 64 kbytes and now its fine
Have fun !

That may even work, but...... it's way beyond the capability of most users.
Again I suggest the use of a program, like AVG Tune-Up that can analyze and reset all 70 of your internet connection parameters. Anything less is just a waste of your time and you're just doing Guesswork.
And, if you guess wrong, you could seriously damage your internet connection.
Do it right and you won't have to do it twice.
PS: If you use Mozilla Firefox (currently at ver. 15.0.1) there is a whole page of tweaks and changes that you can easily make, to get Firefox to run more efficiently. I've done them and they do work.
Just Google "Speed up Firefox"
