For a way of policing what games do and do not work in Windows 8 Shaming those companies who lack support, and warning Windows 8 advocates of games that do or do not work. I'm building a master list of games and whether or not they work that will be presented below. Please comment if you've got a game no listed and whether or not it works, please also comment if a game listed as "not working" works, or can be made to work. Note, if a game works for one person, but not another, on the same Windows 8 build it'll be listed as working as it's likely the blaim will fall on driver issues.

Call of Duty 4 does NOT WORK! - freezes on load, and windows disconnects and reconnects mouse 3 times - then the games doesn't respond. CTRL ALT DEL - end task and we are back to the desktop!

Spiral Knights is a F2P game, downloads in a few minutes.
Basically when I start the game, either through Steam or the independent client, a Java window pops up saying:

We were unable to initialize the game's graphical display. Please take the following steps to ensure compatibility:
Visit the technical support forum for up-to-date information and suggestions.
Make sure your system satisfies the game's minimum requirements.
Update your video drivers.
Ensure that hardware video acceleration is fully enabled.

I've followed the game's Tech Support suggestions (found on their wiki/forum) but nothing has worked so far. I've also tried running the game in comparability mode, nothing either.
(I really have no knowledge of Java)

I've updated the list, I'm also happy to add Borderlands has been moved to working with Windows 8. (Requires a patch to work, but thats exactly what should be expected)

Being an Old Timer, I lean more to the Old timer's games.

The card games from Windows XP work just fine on Win8, IF, you copy them along with Cards.ddd and put them in a folder and make a shortcut to the desktop. I like Solitaire, but Hearts works too.

Then I have a 22 year old game, MahJongg, that came out on a single Floppy Disk. It's a DOS, 16 bit program, but loads and runs on W8/32 just fine, but not on W8/64. While installing it on W8/32, the OS did stop and ask me if I wanted to Activate 16 bit support.....as soon as I clicked OK, the install continued. It's my favorite game.

So, there's three more you can add to your list.

The only place I had problems with the Command and Conquer games where with no 1, 2 and 4. Ran them as windows xp and they worked fine atleast for me. Same for Red Alert 1. All the other C&C games worked just fine on windows 8 :D

But as you know this is my machine. If you experiance problems try and google em or ask here :D

Darn, you guys must have too much time on your hands. I'm an auld phart as TM would say and have not even heard of most of these games. Heck Free Cell is hard for me at times. ;)

I have even gotten sopwith 1 and 2 to work through dosbox. Damn i love these old times.

Combat Arms does not seem to work. I have tried everything I can think of. Anyone have any idea for a workaround?

Hmm strange, I tested it out today and it works just fine on my computer.

that makes me concerned. I have not been able to play since i built this computer and installed windows 8 on it. i was told by some people on the CA tech site that it is not compatible with windows 8 so im going to assume thats what it is and not something with my computer. I will be be installing windows 7 tonight so i guess i will see.

Yeah, if your hardware isnt compatible with windows 8 yet or you havent found a way to fix the issue, then I say go back to windows 7 and use that untill they have some drivers that can be used for windows 8 :D

Borderlands(steam version) won't work for me. Where is this patch that you guys are talking about; i cant find it anywhere on google. If it helps, i have nvidia driver: 296.17 and my graphics card is GeForce 9600 GSO. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having some troubles with Fallout New Vegas, when I try to play it the game crashes. it crashes after I select "Play" and it shows me the first screen. I was wondering if anyone could help me out so I can get it going.
